Ideas to celebrate a Green Diwali this year!
by Harsh Agarwal Content WriterDiwali is here
& we are all set to celebrate it to the fullest. But instead of taking the
same old way of celebrating the biggest festival of the year, let’s take the
greener way! A festival which brings in so much of happiness & joy, we
should also welcome it with clean hearts & environment. This Diwali, let's
pledge to go green and keep our environment clean.
Here are some
simple ways to celebrate a green Diwali:-
1. Opt for Diyas - There's nothing that can beat the
beauty of flickering diyas at night, not even the dazzling electric Chinese
lights. This Diwali, opt for diyas or simple LED lights. This will not just
help you in saving electricity and reducing bills, but will also help the
locals who wait the whole year for this festival. This Diwali, buy diyas from a
local roadside vendor and make it a Happy Diwali for them too!
2. Make rangoli with natural colors - In earlier
times, people made rangoli to feed the birds but nowadays we simply can't think
of doing this, as the artificial colors in the rangoli might harm them rather
than doing any good. This Diwali, let's do that again, instead of artificial
colors, make prepare rangoli with spices and other household items like rice
powder, turmeric, cinnamon, cardamom powder, flowers, etc. If not this, you can
also make rangoli with flower petals.
3. Shining homes - Our houses get a full make-over
during Diwali; right from the walls to wardrobes, everything has to be deep
cleaned. Here are a few ideas you can make your house a happy and clean place
during Diwali.
A. Use
eco-friendly paints
B. Use incense
sticks rather than synthetic room fresheners
C. Use bandanwars
or traditional door hangings rather than high-voltage lights
D. Use leftover
or waste paper to make paper lanterns (kandeels)
4. Opt for homemade sweets
We all know
the types of adulteration that happen in the sweets market during the festivals
and the negative health effects of consuming the same. This Diwali, avoid all
artificial colors and adulterated stuff and make sweets at home like besan
ladoo, barfi with coconut and milk, kheer, gajar ka halwa, etc.
5. Go fashionable yet sustainable!
If doing so
much to celebrate a green Diwali, why compromise with fashion. Yes, you heard it
right! Check out W’s latest POP SETS collection made using Livaeco – an

Other than
this, you should also decorate your house using handmade stuff. Make lanterns
or flowers using waste paper. So this Diwali, go festive in a creative way and
keep your surroundings clean. And most importantly, be safe while enjoying the
festival of lights. Don’t burn crackers as it pollutes the environment and
trouble your furry friends. Stay safe & have a very happy Diwali!
