Namaste! Are you finding your yoga practice not quite enough to get you calm?  Have you even considered going to the dark side and taking a P-word class? 

Well, don’t give up on yoga yet, because as you probably know there’s more than one practice type and given all the options for Yoga Manhattan classes, there has to be something out there.

Iyengar Yoga

This practice concentrates on proper alignment allied with detailed precise movements all done while controlling the breath. You won’t be able to think about stress.

Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini works the core with fast moving exercises and breathing. It’s usually a very intense class and for this type of Yoga Brooklyn has many options, but you might check their entry requirements.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga classes are not for the beginner. The sequence of poses is demanding; five sun salutations one after the other and that is just the opener. You need to know the vinyasas before going to class.

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa is an adaptation of Ashtanga and is a coordination of breath control and flow.

Bikram Yoga

Named after Bikram Choudhury this is poses in a sauna-hot room. You’re going to know you have completed this course. And just maybe consider it when you have time to shower. You’ll be too hot to be stressed.

Yin Yoga

This is a great class for beginners because it teaches the poses. But it is not for the weak of will. Postures are held from anywhere from 45 seconds to two minutes. Imagine holding Cobra for two minutes - your muscles would be shaking too much to think about stress.

Restorative Yoga 

This is great at the end of the day, as it focuses on relaxing and coming down after a busy day. It’s just the thing for someone who’s had a bad day in the city. Now this sounds just what the doctor ordered for stress.

Jivamukti Yoga

The idea here is to explore the connection of the individual to the Earth by combining vinyasa like flows with Hindu spiritual teaching.

This has just scratched the surface and there are more types of yoga in either Manhattan or Brooklyn which have so much to offer. Come to think of it, finding the right type of yoga class for you might be a bit stressful. Here’s a plan, don’t think about it too much. Take a restorative class to renew your spirit and soul. And then go to one of every class.
