HVAC Myths you should not believe in

by John Mcclane Professional SEO Expert

The internet can be a very helpful thing when you have a particular question in mind. However, too much information can cause big problems because not all of it is true. If you type in a question about any appliance in your home, you get page after page of helpful tips and hacks from just about everybody. Unfortunately, this is how misconceptions are spread easily.

In this blog we take a look at a few myths about your HVAC system, we look at the logic behind the myth and bust it too. Read on;

MYTH 1: Your System’s air filter has only to be changed once a year.

Not at all, the HVAC filter is an integral part of the system. It protects the inside components of the HVAC system from becoming damaged or dusty. The air filter is not designed to improve air quality as much as others will tell you otherwise. The air filter becomes clogged rapidly with debris and it therefore needs to be changed regularly this rate of replacement is more often than once a year.

You should change your air filter once every 4-6 weeks on the HVAC. The rate of changing the air filter depends on how heavily the system is in use and also how contaminated the house is with dirt and debris. If the air filter is not changed, the HVAC system will suffer from a drop in efficiency, and other serious problems like frozen evaporator coils or short-cycling will occur. Check once every few weeks to see if the air filter needs replacement.

Myth 2: Closing vents in unoccupied rooms will save money

This myth exists because it seems to make sense. If there is no cooled or heated air that goes into a particular area, it means less work for your HVAC, right? Unfortunately in a less than perfect world, this is not the case.

If you close the room vents it will not help you save money. In fact it will cost you more money. The duct work and the blower fan are likely to get damaged due to pressure and overwork.

Myth 3: You don’t need regular HVAC maintenance

This is one of the biggest misconceptions that abound in regard to HVAC’s. Maintenance is not a luxury; it is a necessity that keeps your HVAC in shape and ready to work for you.

With maintenance you fend off unnecessary repairs, prevent emergency breakdowns, and your HVAC stays safe. We are around all the time to give you help.
