Attention-Getting Headline Here, Not Salesy

There should be a paragraph here that introduces the news item, and is straight to the point.

A paragraph that gives some background to the news item should go here. It doesn't have to be very long or profound, but make sure it says everything it needs to say, concisely, with professional language, correct grammar and AP-specific punctuation.

“A quote from a client or other party to whom the press release pertains should go here,” said Chris Chavez, Director of Analytics and Accountability at Red Rocket Web Specialists. "Make sure that the quote always references the person as 'said Their Name,' and also make sure that you don't put words in someone's mouth. It's important to clear their quote with them first, prior to paraphrasing."

Chavez also said that anytime you need to back the quote up with information the client or other party also said, make sure to pull it into a paragraph like this one and say that they "also said" like done above. Somewhere in this paragraph is a great place to put a hyperlink with a keyword back to an optimized page for whom you've written the press release.

Additional paragraphs aren't necessary as this is just a press release. However, if you are trying to include more links in the content of your press release, link a different keyword here. This allows your press release to be newsworthy, and not spam your readers with links.

“This is a great time to get a quote into the press release from your team,” said Chris Chavez, Director of Analytics and Accountability. "It looks good to have a quote from the staff as it allows you to put your fingerprint on the project even more."

For more information, please reference any of the other press release examples listed in this manual.

End the press release with some boiler plate copy. The boiler plate is one more chance to get an additional into the press release. After this paragraph make sure to use three hash marks (###) to signal that your press release is over. Put your contact information at the end or beginning (depending on how each media outlet prefers it), and voila, you're done.
