How to work effectively with a paint color expert?
by Amy Wax Amy Wax – International Color ConsultantAre
you thinking about hiring a paint color consultant to assist you? Here are some
tips for ensuring that your experience is a positive one.
Color
is a very personal thing and can affect your mood. Consequently, in order to
select a perfect color palette, you the customer, need to do your homework.
Before meeting with your color consultant, look in magazines for pictures of
rooms that inspire you. Ask yourself: what effect are you trying to achieve;
how do you want the painted rooms to feel when you enter them; and what do you
want the color to say to you.
When
your consultant arrives, you both should walk through your home so he/she can
get an idea of what rooms will be addressed and what your current palette is.
Make sure that anyone who is going to have a decision in this selection is
present during the consultation. Advise your consultant if you are keeping your
existing furnishings, cabinetry, flooring, and window treatments or buying new.
Be prepared to tell the consultant what direction the room to be painted faces
and what lighting will be used in the room as well as when you are most in the
room. Your consultant will also want to know what mood you want to create.
If
you are keeping your existing furnishings, your color
consultant will
work with you to determine an appealing color that will complement the room.
The consultant will help you decide on the hue and saturation with which you
are comfortable.
Once
the colors are determined, make sure that you create paint samples on white
poster board and tape them to each wall in the room to be painted. A paint
color can vary from wall to wall depending upon light exposure. Most paint
companies now carry small cans of paint for sampling. Look at the room
throughout the day to ensure that you are still happy with the choice even with
the different lighting that affects it throughout the day. This is an important
step that many people neglect.
A
paint
color expert in Florida
can assist you in choosing a color that will work in your room, but you have to
be satisfied with how it actually looks in the room. If you follow all of these
suggestions, you should be very happy with your new hue!
