How to wash bath mats and rugs

by TM Maria Be a king in your own kingdom

Bath mats are very useful to prevent accidental falls, but, if you don't wash them well, they can be quite unhygienic. Dirty bath mats accumulate bacteria and dirt that can cause foot fungus and unpleasant odors. Here you will find useful tips for how to wash bathroom rugs.

Types of bath mats or rugs

In general, the bath mats are made of plastic and can be placed to enter or leave the bathtub or shower, thus avoiding accidental falls. The other type of bath mats is those that are placed outside the shower or bathtub to dry your feet and prevent someone from slipping on the wet floor. The two types of carpets require different care.

Rubber shower mats: wash in the bathtub

There are several ways to clean rubber bath mats, but one of the most effective is to use the bathtub.

  • Peel off the rubber mat from the floor of the bathtub. Support it in the bathtub, without adhering it to the surface.

  • Fill the bathtub with warm water.

  • Protect yourself with rubber gloves and pour two cups of lavandina in the water.

  • Scrub the carpet with a clean bristle brush.

  • Once you have finished cleaning the carpet on both sides, let the water drain and then rinse the bathtub and carpet thoroughly.

If the carpet has fungus or bad smell, let the mixture with lavandina act on the surface for a couple of hours. When you use lavandina, I opened the windows for fresh air to run and, as a precaution, followed the instructions on the package label.

Rubber shower mats: washing machine cleaning method

If you don't want to wash the carpet by hand, you can let your washing machine handle the heavy work:

  • Place the carpet in a washing machine with some soft clothes, such as towels or laundry, to help scrub with the touch with stains.

  • Schedule a delicate wash cycle with hot water.

  • Then, hang the carpet and let it dry by itself.

How to wash cloth bath mats

Cloth bath mats can usually be washed in the washing machine with other clothes. Anyway, I read the carpet tag in case it requires special washing instructions.

  • Wash it with hot water to eliminate fungi and bacteria, and let it dry.

  • To remove difficult stains, use a stain remover. Apply it to the affected surface, let the product act for five minutes, wash the carpet and voila! We recommend that you first test the product on a poorly visible surface to prevent adverse reactions.

  • As an alternative method, you can use laundry soap with anti-stain properties, to dissipate stains and dirt.

No matter what type of carpets you have in the bathroom, it will show you how to clean them so they look great.
