Although your tax refund is about the same as the average, about $2,881 per individual taxpayer in 2018, according to IRS figures; You might be rubbing your head and wondering, once you've filed your return, when does my IRS refund arrive?

The good part is that if you have already filed your taxes, you know that you should receive a federal income tax refund.

Fortunately, once you've filed your return and know you're due a federal tax refund, you can track it through the IRS website.

There are several options with which you can track your tax return:

Through the IRS refund portal

Go to the main IRS refund web portal and click the "Check My Refund Status" button on the right side of the page, which will guide you to the "Where's my refund ?" tool.

Have your social security number handy, as you will need to provide it, or your individual taxpayer identification number, filing status, and the exact amount of the refund you are expecting based on the tax return you filed. And if you lost your W-2 form and find your W2 online request a duplicate from IRS website they will provide you W-2 form.

With the IRS2Go App

If you have a Smartphone, you can download the IRS2GO mobile application. It is available on "Google Play," "Amazon" or "Apple App Store". This is a free application that you can use to check the status of your refund.

It has other functions for which you can use it, such as making payments in case you need to pay estimated taxes in the year. Using the free IRS2GO app to check the status of your refund is easy and convenient.

By telephone to the IRS call center

With the exception that you will only be able to do it after 21 days from when you file your tax return electronically and six weeks if you did it by mail.

If you've already tried the online tool and it prompts you to contact the IRS, you can call.

Keep in mind that this call can take a while: the average wait time is 15 minutes during tax season and 27 minutes when it's not.
