How to Use SEO to Improve Search Engine Rankings

by Stephanie Scott Internet Marketer

Dental SEO involves optimizing your website with keywords to improve search engine rankings for the particular keywords and key phrases used by your audience to search for dentists in your area. Optimization involves creating content on your website that is tailored to your local market.

You can use search engine optimization to promote your dental practice on the Internet. If you do not have a website, creating one should be on your to-do list. In the meantime, you can use optimization techniques to get some traffic to your site and increase your online presence.

Use of keywords is a critical part of dental SEO. This involves selecting keywords that will help drive potential patients to your website. You can use Google's Keyword Tool to find the best keywords that are related to the audience you are targeting. Use the keywords on your website, but don't overuse them. Also, make sure that your keywords are relevant to the content on the page.

You can't rely on generic keywords for your dental practice's website. People looking for a dentist in their area will use very specific keywords to find a dental care provider in their area.

Use the keywords on your website in the title tags. The title tags are the first items that are indexed by the search engines. You can use the keywords several times in the titles tags, but don't overdo it. You don't want the title tags to be a mere sales pitch. They should read more like a sentence, not a list of keywords. Dental offices that have pages on their website with titles like, "San Diego Dental Care", are not likely to be as high in the rankings as a company that says, "Dentist San Diego".

You'll also want to use keywords on the website's Meta tags. Meta tags usually go right after the title tags and contain the description of the website. The keywords contained in the tags should be used in the page description and throughout the content on the page.

Another important location for keywords is the website's link text. The text that is used in a link to a website is called the "text link value." If possible, you want the link to contain the keywords being used for the website. It's often a good idea to ask other websites that are in a similar industry to link to your site.

When considering links with other websites, you have to ask yourself these questions: Would the links benefit my visitors? Would I be able to get traffic from the links? And will those visitors then take action to get me more business? If you answered no to any of those questions, you should avoid using links with other websites.

You'll also want to make sure you have unique content on your website. You wouldn't want to be listed alongside companies that have identical names or that are similar to yours. If you do not have unique content, the search engines will not be able to rank you well.

You should have a company blog that you update frequently. You can use keywords to help identify the articles that should be posted on your company's blog.

You should submit your website's link to all of the different search engines. You can submit your link to search engines using their free submit url form. You can also use a free SEO analysis tool that will tell you which search engines are sending traffic to your website.
