How to Treat Hot Flashes?
by Kevin Smith AuthorWhat Are Hot Flashes?
Hot
flashes are a common symptom of menopause. A hot flash is a quick feeling of
heat often accompanied by a flushed face and some sweating. While the exact
reason may be unknown, it is believed that hot flashes occur when blood vessels
near the surface of the skin dilate to cool. Some women even feel cold rather
than a hot flash. How long these hot flashes will go on is different for each
woman, but they will lessen over time. Many women experience hot flashes in The
Woodlands, so it shouldn’t be a big concern. Although they may be common, that
doesn’t mean that they aren’t uncomfortable.
Can Hot Flashes Be Prevented?
Unfortunately,
nothing can be done to completely prevent hot flashes. But some things can be
done to make them more manageable. One thing to consider is knowing the
different things that can trigger hot flashes. While they aren’t all the same
for every woman there are a few common triggers for hot flashes. A few examples
are drinking alcohol or caffeine, eating spicy foods, being in a hot room,
smoking, feeling stressed, or wearing tight clothing. Avoiding these things as
much as possible could help lessen any symptoms of hot flashes. It might be a
good idea to keep track of whether these things are being done before a hot
flash occurs. If there is a pattern it would probably be best to cut out those
foods or activities. And if hot things are common triggers, introducing more
cold things into the daily routine could help. There are also medications that
can help with hot flashes and other symptoms of menopause if simply cutting
things out isn’t doing enough.
The Best Treatment for Hot Flashes
There
are many ways to treat hot flashes in The Woodlands. Aside from simple
lifestyle changes, there are several other treatments available. While avoiding
hot areas or cutting out smoking can help a great deal, something more
extensive like a hormone treatment may be needed. Hormone replacement therapy
can help with menopause by regulating the body’s estrogen levels. Of course,
there are also other medications available that don’t have anything to do with
hormones. Even something as simple as consuming more soy can help with hot
flashes. Due to the estrogen in soy, it can act as a more natural hormone
replacement therapy. It may not be as effective, but consuming more soy can
reduce some symptoms of menopause. There are many different ways to help reduce
any discomfort that comes along with menopause and hot flashes.
