How to treat aching joints through Ayurvedic remedies?

Be it an elderly person or the one who is still in his thirties, almost every other person is seen complaining about chronic knee pain. As a common health disease, knee pain affects every three out of five people and the causes of knee pain are uncountable. Small injury, arthritis, dislocation of kneecaps, muscle sprain, a gap between the joints, etc., are a few reasons why people have aching joints and unable to climb stairs.

Many a time, knee pain remains at a moderate level and other times, it worsens with the time depending on the causes of the disorder. Where many severe knee-pain conditions can be treated only through knee replacements or surgeries, there are many effective knee-pain treatments in Ayurveda, the treasure of ancient wisdom for natural healing. Ancient healing practices such as Sweda (steam treatment), Virechana (purgation therapy of Panchakarma), Lepa (herbal paste on affected areas), Abhyanga (oil massage) are some of the best recommendations found in the Ayurvedic literature for knee-pain treatment. Below are a few tips to treat aching joints naturally as per Ayurveda.

1.      Ginger

Ginger (ZinziberOfficinale) is widely used for knee pain treatment in Ayurveda. Having anti-inflammatory properties, Ginger becomes an effective herb in the process of natural healing of knee pain treatment. It can be included in the everyday diet of the patient or Ginger tea can also be consumed two times a day. One can also massage the knee joints with herbal oil specially medicated with Ginger extracts.

2.      Triphala

Triphala is an Ayurvedic Rasayana prepared by blending natural healing herbs Amalaki (Emblica Officinalis), Haritaki (Terminalia Chebula), and Bibhitaki (Terminalia Bellirica). These herbs are anti-inflammatory in nature which reduces the knee pain. The TriphalaRasayana is trusted by many expert Ayurvedic practitioners for Osteoarthritis treatment in India. It can be consumed in the form of tablets. It strengthens the weakened bones while flushing out the toxins like Ama from the body.

3.      Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha (WithaniSomnifera) is an anti-inflammatory herb which slows down the production of the inflammatory molecules in the body. The research studies have also shown that Sensoril which is found in Ashwagandha relieves the severe knee pain effectively. The oils medicated with Sensoril extract of Ashwagandha are beneficial in healing knee pain, cramps, stiffness and other knee-related diseases.

4.      Yoga

Yoga is one of the best practices for knee-pain treatment in Ayurveda. Trusted from ancient times by Yogis, the stretching and relaxing yoga poses are proven effective in relieving chronic knee pain among individuals. Yoga asanas such as Virasana, UtthitaParsvokonasana, Trikonasana, and Tadasana helps in improving the joint mobility and flexibility through gentle stretching. In fact, Yoga strengthens the joint muscles while helping lose excessive weight.
