How to Travel to Gatwick Airport Quickly and Cheaply

by William Morris londonairportcars

Flying into London has for years been an expensive, time-consuming and unpleasant affair, and those who must fly in and out of London regularly on business have always hated the hassle.

The problem with London airports has always been the fact that they are so inconveniently located. London Gatwick, the second largest airport in the London area after Heathrow, isn't really in or even near the City of London. The airport is actually in West Sussex, a full 28.4 miles south of central London. Getting to and from the airport can be a nightmare, and it's a journey nobody enjoys or looks forward to. What's more, with the high cost of taxis in the UK the cost of transport between London and Gatwick is rarely less than £40, adding a huge cost to the total cost of travel (an £80 round trip will hurt anyone's pocket).

Fortunately, there is an answer. Travellers to Gatwick Airport can now enjoy the speed, convenience and low cost of the Gatwick Express shuttle service between the airport and central London. The service, run by the rail company South West Trains, runs every 15 minutes from London Victoria to Gatwick, and the total journey time is just 30 minutes.

The Gatwick Express has everything to recommend it. The total cost of an adult return ticket is just £33.20 (as of January 2012), and discounted even further if your ticket is booked online. Compared to the average £80 round trip by Gatwick Airport Cab this offers a considerable saving. Furthermore, as the service runs every 15 minutes throughout the day there's no real inconvenience involved, which would be the only argument for choosing a Gatwick Airport Transfer.

Finally, the largest benefit of the Gatwick Express is the journey time. At 30 minutes, the Gatwick Express is much faster than a taxi over the same distance. The time taken to simply get out of central London and onto the M25 would take longer than the total journey time of the express train.

So, if your travel plans include Gatwick Airport any time in the future it makes sense to reject the taxi in favor of the Gatwick Express train service. The Express offers comfort, convenience, speed, safety and savings over the Gatwick Airport taxi, so there are really no reasons to choose any other mode of transport.

p.s. Here's a bonus hint. While the regular Gatwick Express runs non-stop between London and Gatwick, if you're on a tight budget you can make the same journey by a Southern Trains local service for less than half the price and the only downside is that the total journey time is 8 minutes longer.

Hiring a London airport taxi is the most convenient and safe option when it comes to travelling from Gatwick (LGW) airport to your hotel in the city Centre. Britannia Airport Cars are available 24/7 and are known for providing excellent services.
