How to Take Care of Your Lawn Year-Round?

by Kevin Smith Author

No matter where you are located on the map, maintaining a healthy, green lawn can be difficult. If you are having difficulty growing or cutting grass, call your local lawn care services in Atlanta and pay attention to these tips that can help you with certain parts of the seasons.

Winter

Winter is the one season where you really cannot do a lot for your lawn, especially when it is covered in snow. All you can really do is prepare heavily in the fall and try not to walk on it that much, as it could impair growth when it comes time to grow.

Spring

Now that the snow is melting away, you can begin growing your grass for the later months. At the earliest chance you get, start laying sod and planting seeds as the increasingly warmer temperatures will spread them faster.

Fertilize and aerate your yard to make the grass green and allow the air to circulate through the roots and spread out the soil within better. You might not be as reliant on water at first thanks to the cooler temperatures and higher chances of rain in the early spring, but start breaking out the sprinklers and hoses as the summer starts approaching.

Summer

Now that the temperatures are at their peak, you need to maintain a watering schedule especially when it starts getting dryer. If your grass is growing well, you’ll likely have to mow the lawn more than you did before.

Summertime also means more weeds will start popping up throughout your grass, which can be quickly taken care of either by pulling them out or spraying them down. While all of these activities are recommended on a weekly basis, if your neighborhood experiences a very dry period, you should minimize some of these activities (such as mowing the lawn or fertilizing) to focus on your grass returning to its peak condition.

Fall

Since winter is around the corner, you have to make sure your lawn is in good condition before the snow comes down. Rake up the autumn leaves and shred them to use as a soil conditioner, as just leaving them on the ground can harm your grass from a lack of sunlight.

You will also need to fertilize the grass again, but whereas spring grass relies on nitrogen for growth, fall grass relies on potassium for durability during the winter. Lastly, contact your lawn care services in Atlanta to ensure that your grass is as short as it can be before the sun comes down because the shorter grass will protect any new growth experienced near the end of the season and prevent any rodents from making your lawn into their personal burrowing hole.
