If the rims stay on, ensure all the brake dust is removed by giving them a good scrub with a good wheel cleaner. Ensure they are fully dried before storing them for the season. Once they are clean, place each tyre in an individual plastic bag.

You can keep the bags open if you want, but most people prefer to seal them shut to keep out dust and moisture. If you follow this process, they will be ready as soon as you open them in the spring. 

Choose Your Location (Avoid the Sun)

You may not believe, the sun can take a toll on your car tyres. That’s why it’s important to store them in a dark and cool place if possible. The reason is that the UV rays will begin to break down the compound over time, similar to how the mid-day sunlight creates a negative effect on our skin.

Protect White Rubber

Avoid Chemical Exposure

These substances can cause the rubber to degrade over time which can result in leaks and crakes.

So, if you are storing your tyres in the garage, ensure they are far away from any chemicals or fluids. The same goes for storing your tyres and wheels outdoors. Try to keep them on a concrete pad or similar type of surface that is free from any chemicals. 

Should Tyres be Stored Up Right or Flat?
