How To Stop Your Nightly Snoring Problem

by Gregorio M. Better Health Life Easy
It is possible to overcome snoring and get proper sleep, if you know how. Do not allow snoring to negatively impact your physical and mental health any longer; read this article and implement the advice.

To stop yourself from snoring, you may want to change positions when sleeping. Most of the time sleeping on your back can cause you to snore because gravity pushes your head down, causing your throat to close a little. Sleeping on your side reduces stress on your neck and decreases your likelihood of snoring.

Have you heard that singing can help to alleviate snoring? Singing utilizes throat muscles and helps to strengthen them over time. When you have strong throat muscles, the chances of snoring are reduced. Playing a brass or woodwind instrument, like the flute, can also help to strengthen throat muscles.

To help eliminate snoring, exercise your face and throat muscles by making "fish faces". This sounds very odd when you first hear it, but it makes more sense once you learn that it makes your face and throat muscles stronger. While you have your mouth closed, suck in the cheeks. Make movements with your lips, like you're a fish. Repeat this routine a few times a day for maximum efficacy.

Elevating your head during sleep can help stop snoring. Use a very thick pillow to support your head. If necessary, use two or three pillows to get the desired elevation. By holding your head up at an angle, the air flow will open up, which will keep you from snoring as much.

Using nasal strips is a great way in reducing snoring. They have the same general appearance as a Band-Aid. However, they are not bandages. By design, nasal strips help open up your nasal passages while you wear them. You'll be able to breathe easily through your nose and avoid snoring through your mouth.

Those people who are carrying excess weight, particularly around the neck, snore more than those who don't. Too much fatty tissue in the throat of people who are overweight does not make the situation better. Take weight loss into consideration if your weight might be a cause. You will, of course, look good and feel great. You'll likely also stop snoring, as well.

To keep your snoring under control, invest in a firm pillow. Your throat muscles can relax too much while sleeping on a soft pillow, thus allowing your airways to constrict. Snoring will occur if you cannot breathe properly. A firmer pillow will help to keep your air passages fully open.

Quitting smoking can have a huge impact on your snoring. If you are unable to stop smoking, cut down and do not smoke near bedtime. Smoking causes the tissues in your throat and sinus cavity to swell, reducing your airway capacity significantly. This inflammation and narrowing leads to snoring; therefore, not smoking should relieve some of the swelling.

One interesting way to help relieve snoring is by singing loudly. Some doctors recommend singing as a means for building up palate and throat muscles. Greater muscle tone can then help keep passageways open during sleep, helping you rest easier.

If you eat less at night, you will not snore as much. Large meals eaten before bed will fill your stomach. This will cause your diaphragm to be pressed up towards the throat, and the subsequent pressure could cause blocking, or decrease the space near your throat. If your throat is narrowed, it causes a reduction in airflow. This is a major contributor to snoring.

You probably have people who care about you very much, so treating yourself properly is not only important for you, but it's also important for them. Dealing with your snoring can prevent you from contracting diseases, and it's easy to treat it so it's worth putting effort into. Best of luck to treating snoring successfully!
