How to Reset BIOS in your Computer?

It is worrisome to see when your computer is not booting and you cannot find what is wrong with your system. The BIOS of your system might have gone corrupt and created the issue while rebooting. Well, there could be a lot of reasons for the BIOS corruption like a malware infected your system; sudden power outage or broken update files for BIOS. But you don’t have to worry because you there are some ways with which you can reset BIOS in your computer. Don’t bother for the reasons causing the problem; resetting the BIOS brings significant results, so you should try restoring the BIOS.

The BIOS, an abbreviation for Basic Input Output System, is a firmware stored in a chip which is a part of the motherboard in a computer. Set on some commands and instructions, it runs to load the operating system whenever you turn on your system. To reset your BIOS, you will need to open your computer housing and remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard.

How to reset BIOS in your computer

Resetting by BIOS settings

  1. Restart your PC.
  2. Wait until startup screen appears.
  3. Now, press Del or F2 button continuously to enter the setup. Some systems have different key command, so if these two doesn’t work then press F8F10Esc or Tab
  4. As you pressed the button to enter setup, BIOS will load and open its settings.
  5. Find Setup Defaults option
  6. The name and location of Setup Defaults could vary in different BIOS.
  7. You can find it in different tabs or with the options.
  8. Use arrows from your keyboard and go to Load Setup Defaults.
  9. Now, press Enter, and you will see BIOS is resetting immediately.
  10. Save the changes you brought in your BIOS settings.
  11. The BIOS be show the buttons for command at the bottom of the screen. Press F10 to save and exit.
  12. The computer will automatically reboot, but if you want to change something then follow the process again to enter the BIOS.

Resetting by removing CMOS battery

  1. First, you need to power off the computer system by pressing the power button.
  2. Unplug your computer from any power cables.
  3. In case you have a laptop, then remove the charging cords for the laptop.
  4. Before you open up your system, you must put your computer on a metal surface to lose the static electricity.
  5. Remove the CMOS battery from the motherboard. Depending on the manufacturer, the location of the battery may vary.
  6. Now, press and hold the power button of your system for 20 seconds.
  7. It will remove the stored power from capacitors.
  8. CMOS memory will reset when the power is discharged, consequently reset your BIOS.
  9. Now, reinsert the CMOS battery on its place and resemble your computer.
  10. Reconnect your cables and turn on your computer.
  11. Now, you will be to access BIOS and reset the settings.
