How to Repair your Mobile Phone Screen on your Own?

by Fone Express Mobile Phone Repairs

Repairing your phone’s broken screen is easier when you have access to the right tools and repair guide. Find out how you can repair your phone on your own without spending a huge sum of money.

Replacing the screen of your phone can be a tricky affair. Your phone is made up of different layers and in order to replace the screen you need to remove each layer carefully and then remove and replace the glass. You need the right tools and access to a detailed guide on the procedure. You might require screwdrivers, levels, tweezers, hairdryer or heat gun and a guitar plectrum. While you can try your hands on most of the models available in the market, there are few that cannot be repaired without sending them back to the manufacturer. Here is a detailed guide on how you can replace your phone screen without spending big bucks:

Open the phone: Remove the back cover and the battery of the phone and find out where the Torx screws are. These screws can be anywhere near the labels or the USB ports. For disassembling the phone you will typically need levers and plectrum. You might find some additional screws and you will need to remove them as well to continue the process. While opening your phone also look for ribbon cables and be careful while removing them from their connectors. The cables are so delicate that they can break easily if not handled carefully.

Remove the display: Once you have carefully removed the ribbon cable, separating the phone’s display from the digitizer wouldn’t be a much difficult. Keep in mind that some phones have a combined digitizer and display. Use a hairdryer or heat gun to soften the adhesive and remove the glass display.

Replace the adhesive and display: Adhesives are available in narrow rolls. Replacement adhesives are sticky on both the sides. Cut them into extremely narrow strips and apply them on the phone’s frame rather than the glass. When the adhesive is right in place pull the protective strips from the adhesive and place the glass in place.

Connect the cables: Connect back the cables and lock them together correctly. Now assemble the phone parts together one by one.  Make sure no cables and screws are left behind and fix everything in place. When you have placed everything back to their place, test the phone to ensure that everything is working correctly. To check whether all the functionality is retained switch on the phone before placing the final screws. If the phone fails to function properly, recheck whether any screws or cables are left over or the connections are incorrect.
