How to repair an automatic garage door
It is usually advised that you have a regular garage door service when living on the Gold Coast. If there is a roller or a hinge on the garage door, you follow the same procedure when repairing it; all you have to do is interchange the parts. The garage door is made to slide easily up and down the track and to stay on the same path. Whether you are on the Gold Coast or doing a garage door repair in Miami, it’s the same procedure.
Rollers will usually get knocked out of place when people are aggressively opening and closing it. To prevent further damage from occurring, you need to make sure that all people who open and close the door do so smoothly. Here are some useful tips on how to repair your automatic garage door.
Safety first
Automatic garage doors are very heavy and cumbersome so you need to be careful when lifting them. Never try to conduct these repairs without somebody helping you, you need someone to help you move parts and to hold components in place during the repair process. Some of the bigger dangers are the weight of the door as well as the great tension that is contained in the springs. You can tell how powerful the springs are as they alone are able to lift and close the heavy garage door. It is better to do any repairs while the door is in the upright position. Always ensure that it is properly supported so that it won’t drop on you or your partner during the repair process. Always remember to unplug the door form the electricity first as you don’t want to get a nasty shock.
Taking out the old part
Make sure that the door is fully stable and is adequately supported by some c-clamp or a long piece of board that is wedged underneath it. The clamps are easier to use. Once you remove the hinges, the frame will sag so it is important that the panels of the door are properly braced in anticipation for this. You can now loosen the nuts and get a hammer to take them out and take out the hinge. Make sure that all components are kept in a safe place so that they don’t get lost. All you have to do now is to tap the hinge out away from the door to disengage the roller.
Putting in the new part
Now that you are ready to install the new hinge, make sure that the roller is put into the correct hole. Tip the roller back onto the tracks and ensure that the hinge is positioned over the holes of the bolts. Now you should tap the bolts back in, ensuring that they are tight. Make sure that the axle of the roller is in the correct position and you are finished. Open and close the door a few times to make sure it is working properly.
