How to Rename a Local User Account in Windows 10

There might come a time when you want to rename a local user account on your shared Windows 10 PC. The process to do so is easy and there are multiple methods for the same. To know more, follow these simple steps:

Renaming the user’s account through managing the Control Panel

  1. Press the Windows+ R keys from your system keyboard to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Under the box bar, enter “Control” and hit “OK” button.
  3. Go to the User Accounts section, here you have to hit on the change account type link.
  4. Double-tap on the particular account that you desire to modify.
  5. Tap on the “Change the Account Name” option.
  6. In the new account box, provide your desired name that you want.
  7. Tap on the option below it to change the name.

Renaming account’s name of Window 10 users by opening Local Users and Groups 

There is another option to change your user’s name if you are not using the home version of your Windows 10 because this function is not available on the home version of Window 10. If you are operating other editions of Windows 10, then you will be able to modify your user’s account very easy by applying these simple steps:

  1. Just launch the run dialog pop-out box by pressing Windows + R buttons from the keyboard.
  2. Now enter “lusrmgr.msc” and then tap “OK” button.
  3. Navigate to “Local Users and Groups” page and then hit on the users. Now double tap on the users accounts that you desire to change.
  4. Enter the fresh name under the box provided. Hit on the apply button and then tap “OK.”

Renaming the user’s account from the Settings app

Renaming  a user’s account by the setting’s app is also very simple. It is one of the most used ways of modifying the user account.

  1. First of all, press Window button + X from your system keyboard.
  2. Under the options menu, tap on the “Settings” tab.

  4. Tap on the “Manage my Microsoft Account” option.
