How to prevent your eyes from the dangers of blue light?

Although ultraviolet light is well-known to be the most dangerous type of light for our eyes, blue light can be just as dangerous (if not more.) Blue light is the highest frequency of the visible spectrum and high levels of exposure to it can cause irreparable damage to the human eye.

The science behind blue light

Unlike other colors on the visible spectrum, the eye cannot handle a significant amount of blue light and can be overloaded. When the eye becomes overloaded with blue light there is an increased risk for oxidative stress as well as damaging structural effects on the cornea and retina. Researchers have found that retinal cells exposed to blue light have a higher loss of mitochondrial activity than cells which have been kept in the dark for the same amount of time.

The best preventative measure

Wearing blue light glasses is perhaps the easiest and the most effective way to prevent the negative effects of blue light as they absorb the blue light while allowing other light to pass through. Blue light glasses also improve the quality of vision. In fact, many people who are not concerned about damage to their eyes wear these glasses solely for the purpose of increased clarity and visual perception.

Blue light can be extremely dangerous and has the potential to disrupt your daily life. In some rare cases, it can also lead to partial or full blindness! Don’t let your eyes be exposed to the dangers of blue light. Invest in a pair of blue blocking glasses and give your eyes the protection they deserve.
