How To Prevent Hair Damage

by Victor Lee DIY Specialist

Wearing a jet black hair extensions are a terrific method for many women to change up their hairdo, adding length, volume, and even color to their hair.  Because of this, while these hairstyles offer various options, wearing them might harm your natural hair and even lead to hair loss if you don't take adequate care and measures.

It is common for women to wear their natural hair in a tight ponytail or bun with a weave or extension, which can cause damage to their hair. When you pull on your hair all the time, you risk breaking or damaging your hair follicles, which can lead to hair loss. Hair follicle injury results in permanent hair loss since the hair cannot regrow.

By taking a few precautions before, during, and after wearing this style, women can help avoid these concerns. Dermatologists advise the following measures to prevent hair damage caused by weaves or extensions:

Maintain the health of your natural hair.

Natural hair should be cared for before getting a weave or extensions installed.  Hairspray and other product accumulation should be avoided when styling your hair. Keep your hair nourished and intense using conditioner. To maintain your hair healthy while wearing extensions or a weave, stick to this hair care regimen.

Consult a stylist for assistance.

A professional weave or set of extensions is recommended.  The hairdo is too tight if you experience pain or have a headache while you are working.  Traction alopecia, a form of hair loss caused by repetitive pulling on the hair, can be permanent if the hairdo is too tight.  Ask your hairstylist if the hairdo causes discomfort or if it's too tight.

Maintain a clean hairstyle.

You should wash your hair as often as your hair type dictates you should.  Clip-in extensions should be removed before shampooing your hair. To maintain your scalp healthy and clean, use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.

Take care of your corners.

The thin infant hairs surrounding your hairline, known as your "edges," are incredibly delicate.  Use only water-based style gels and conditioners to maintain this sensitive hair.  As much as possible, avoid using heated styling equipment.

You can change up your hairstyle at any time.

Giving your hair a break from extensions or a weave is essential for healthy hair. Wear these styles for a maximum of two or three months before moving to a different hairstyle that does not include them. The products you use and how you style your hair can go a long way toward ensuring that your hair is healthy.  You should consult a board-certified dermatologist right away if you have any queries regarding hair care or are worried about hair loss.
