How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal?

by Kevin Smith Author

Imagine being able to throw away all your razors, never to be seen again. Imagine now tossing out your waxing supplies, and not having to go to the salon every 6 weeks for your wax appointment. How much money and time do you think you could save if these potentially costly treatments were suddenly a thing of your past? Because of laser hair removal in Boston, they could be.

Now if you’re planning on going in for laser hair removal, there are some things you should know before your appointment. These things are outlined briefly below.

Be as Light as Possible

Many people choose to undergo laser hair removal in the winter because your skin should be as light as possible for your appointment. The laser will “take” easier if the hairs are darker than the skin. Before you go, you should apply a high SPF sunscreen for a couple of weeks prior to your appointment anytime you are outside.

Stop Waxing and Plucking

You should also stop waxing and pluck 2 to 4 weeks before your appointment. These hair removal techniques can make your laser hair removal treatment less effective. Shaving is generally okay, but removing hair from the follicle through waxing or plucking should be avoided.

Shave a Couple Days Before

A couple days before you go in for your treatment, shave the area that you want to treat. If long hairs are present during your laser treatment, it will still be effective although more painful for you. There should be visible follicles but not long hairs, and 2 or 3 days without shaving will usually be adequate.

Avoid Cosmetics or Skin Care Products

Any cosmetics or skin care products such as deodorant or lotion should be avoided prior to your treatment. If you do have deodorant on, it will likely be removed before the treatment. However, you can make the process easier and smoother if you can thoroughly clean your skin beforehand.

Plan Your Outfit

During your appointment, you will probably be sent home with a topical cream to treat the skin. Before your appointment, plan to wear clothing that is loose fitting or if you can wear something that leaves the treated area exposed altogether, this is best.
