How To Prepare For Amarnath Yatra

Amarnath is a spiritual and adventurous bliss in India for mind and soul. Situated at an extreme elevation of 3900 metres (approximately), this cave is a sacred shrine for Hindu religion.

Myriads of pilgrims each year visit this place in the month of July and August where they experience challenging terrain which itself is a memorable adventure.

Before deciding the amarnath tour package for the holy Amarnath cave, a visitor must follow these tips to be prepared for this amalgamation of spirituality and adventure.

Stamina Building

If one wishes to complete the yatra by walking, he / she must strengthen their stamina by walking for 5 – 10 kms for a month prior to this holy journey. Running in the range of 3 – 4 kms for 15 days should also be part of the stamina building regime.

Breathe strengthening

As Amarnath cave is located at an higher altitude, it is important to be prepared for the condition with comparatively less percentage of oxygen in the air. Breathing capability can be strengthened by the enthusiasts through climbing stairs on regular basis for minimum 25-30 days. Yogasanas, stretching and breathing exercises (known as Pranayama) should also be performed by the visitors prior to visit to strengthen their respiratory system.

Clothing

As the temperature goes much below (even negative), the luggage bag must contain woolen items which include sweaters, monkey caps, trousers (woolen) and jackets etc. One must ensure that clothes are not heavy or dense and not difficult to handle like sarees etc. To prevent from rainfall in the path, a rain coat should also be part of the luggage..Pilgrims must wear trekking shoes and slippers / sandals should be avoided.

Plastic bags

Strong bags should be used for most of the belongings as these are light weight and does not tear if these are made up of thick plastic. There are also various plastic bags with zip lock which can protect your belongings even when it rains.

Skin protection during journey

A visitor must carry petroleum jelly, sun screens and related skin ointments along with the belongings as these are necessary for protecting the skin during the harsh climatic conditions.

Emergency notes

Keep emergency note in the pocket with all your details home address, emergency contact number, full name and blood group etc to get proper support in case of emergency. Documents like Identity card and Yatra permit should always be kept in the pocket.

Insurance

Accidental insurance and general insurance must be done prior to the journey to the Amarnath due to the tough conditions. An insurance of one lakh is also provided by Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board for registered visitors.

Medical kit

Keep a medical in bag pack containing items like dettol, bandages, Volini Gel, cotton and ointments etc for minor injuries. Medicines like aspirin, paracetamol, anti-nauseates, anti-allergic, probiotics (for stomach disorder) etc should also be kept in the medical kit to avoid minor ailments during the journey.
