How to play casino game blackjack

• 2- 10 counts at their face value. 

• Jack, Queen, and King, all are counted as 10.

• Ace is counted as 1 or 11 depending on which value helps the hand the most.

The game begins when one places a bet by placing a chip or chips in the betting square on the table in front of them. After all bets have been settled, each player and the dealer are given two cards. In a shoe (a plastic, card-dispensing device) game, all player’s cards are dealt face up and they are not allowed to touch their cards.

In a single or double-deck game dealt from the hand, cards are dealt face down, and players may take them up with one hand. In either case, one of the dealer's cards is turned face up so the players can see it. Once the cards have been handed out, players then decide how to play. After all the players have completed, the dealer plays according to standard rules. The player has the following options:

Hit

If one hits, they take another card or cards in the hope of getting closer to 21. After hitting, if the player's total exceeds 21, the player is said to ‘Bust’ and hence lose the bet. In the shoe game, one signals a hit by pointing to the card or waving towards himself. In facedown games, one signals a hit by scratching the table with the cards.  

Stand

If one stands, they elect to draw no more cards in the hope that the current total value will beat the dealer. One can slide the cards under their bet in a facedown game or signal a stand by holding a flattened palm over the cards in a faceup game.  

Double down

Doubling down is a situation where, after dealing the two original cards, one can double the initial bet in return for a single card, with the option to hit or stay eliminated. However, it is a risky strategy, but it’s a chance one will have to take if they want to win the game.

Split 

If the first two cards are of the same denomination, one may elect to make the second bet equal to the first and split the pair, using each card as the first card in a separate hand. 

Insurance

Insurance is a side bet that’s offered when the dealer’s upcard is an ace. One can bet half their original wager and it pays 2 to 1. If the dealer’s second card is a ten, jack, queen, or king he makes blackjack and one wins the insurance bet. For example, X has 18 with a $10 bet down. The dealer has an ace up. X takes a $5 insurance bet. If the dealer has Blackjack, X lost  $10 bet on the hand but won $10 with 2-1 payoff on the $5 insurance bet.
