How to master SAT Verbal

The SAT exam is a standardized test accepted by universities and colleges in the United States of America offering undergraduate courses. The exam tests the student’s proficiency in the areas of Mathematics, Critical Reading, and Writing.

The exam is further subdivided into a number of subject tests- English Literature, History (U.S. or World), Language (Chinese, French, Hebrew, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Spanish or German), Math (Level 1 or Level 2), and Science (Biology-Ecological, Biology-Molecular, Chemistry or Physics).

The SAT scoring is done section-wise. Points are earned on a 200-800 scale in each of the two sections- Evidence-Based Reading and Writing (EBRW), and Math. Making for a maximum of 1600 points in total. SAT subject tests are also scored on a 200-800 scale with 1 point for each correct answer, and 录 point being deducted for each question you answer incorrectly.

A lot of the students struggle to score high in the SAT’s verbal section. However, it is not that difficult if the student practices to recognise the important points in reading comprehensions and circles them before moving on. Thus, when answering questions at the end of the passage, the student can go back to circled areas for reference.

Another tip to keep in mind is that the most effective methods in mastering the SAT verbal is to eliminate answers that are certainly not probable. In order to do this efficiently, the student must read through the questions and answers with great focus and mark the ones that make the least sense.

Through all this, keeping a track of time is critical. When you’re through the third passage, you should have around 25 minutes left on the section. SAT verbal is 65 minutes long and typically has 5 passages and associated questions. This means you need to spend 13 minutes per passage on average.
