There are several options for homeowners when it comes to protecting their pool fencing, and many choose to use some form of glass fencing, such as the semi-frameless glass pool fencing option. Using glass fencing around the edge of your pool not only helps to keep it safe, and to protect those near the pool from falling in, it is also a popular design feature, something that many Queensland pool owners have been thinking about since new laws came in requiring that all pools be secured with a fence. Choosing a semi-frameless option can allow you to get good security with aesthetic appeal.

Who should consider glass pool fencing?

If you are planning to change the fencing of your home then glass pool fencing can be a serious consideration regardless of your situation. However, some people benefit more from this option than others. For example, if you have a young family, then this type of fencing allows you to keep an eye on the kids while they are in the pool. If you live in a windy area, then you can help to defend swimmers against chill blasts by using glass fencing.

How to plan the fit

Before you purchase the glass fencing, you will need to do some work. Firstly, you will have to carefully measure the area of the pool, following recommendations that the fence should be at least 1300mm away from the edge of the pool. Fences which are any closer need to be professionally installed. Secondly, you need to work out where your underground pipes and cables are. You will want to avoid these when installing poles. Thirdly, you need to divide up your pool space into equal sizes. Using equal-sized panels will help to give your semi-frameless glass balustrade an aesthetic appeal. Lastly, you need to make sure that your plans for swimming pool fencing meet the requirements of the new law. Research this before installing.

Use toughened glass for panels and gates

If you want to ensure your glass fencing is secure, you need to have properly toughened glass. You should only use 10mm glass that has been toughened to an approved safety grade A on the panels lining the sides of the pool and on the glass gate. You may also choose to have a protective coating on the surface of the glass that prevents shattering, which helps to keep swimmers safe.
