The numbers of cards in the capital are increasing at an astronomical pace. Same is the case with two-wheelers and buses. Though metro has eased traffic burden woes of the capital - Delhites are increasingly buying their own vehicles. And this is causing more pollution, stagnated traffic, and increase in road accidents. The need is to aware people to use more and more of public transport and follow traffic rules - Delhi transport authorities also have a role to play here. They need to manage traffic and roads better. They need more manpower, more road safety products and better parking management facilities.

When we talk about road safety products, we primarily talk about road barriers, traffic cones, speed bumps, etc. These products help the traffic police better manage the traffic and divert a section of that traffic, if need arises. Of late, several companies have jumped in the manufacturing, supplying and exporting of road safety products and parking management products such as convex mirrors which help you avoid collisions from vehicles coming from the other side.

Making Delhites aware about traffic rules and encouraging them to follow those rules even when there isn’t a policeman in sight is a challenge - but with continued efforts, this can be achieved. When we’ll follow rules, traffic woes as well as road rages & accidents will go down - this is simple, right?

It is also important that authorities invest in quality road safety products that serve for years. Though there’re many companies in the production of road safety and parking management products, not all build quality products - so it’s a task for the authorities or companies that buy these products to check the quality of the products so they stay longer. They should ideally speak with a couple of companies and compare their quotes and product quality. Basis this comparison, they should go with the company that is offering them the best in price and product quality.

Last, but not the least, police has to be a little strict - those who don’t wear helmets or wear weak quality helmets should be heavily fined - similar should be the case with those who violate other traffic rules. And people should be encouraged and rewarded for helping road accident victims. The myth should be broken that you’ll get in trouble if you help someone injured on roads or elsewhere. Police has to go to public to encourage conversation and understanding so that common folks don’t fear police.
