How to Maintain Your Gun Safe

Gun safes are designed to be durable and impenetrable. But even the toughest gun safe needs maintenance and cleaning. 

It requires very skillful thieves or a negligent owner for a gun safe to be cracked. But if your safe is not properly maintained, then it will succumb to natural deteriorating factors.

Use a Dehumidifier

A gun safe can resist fire, water, falls, and many other aggressive treatments, but like our good bullet-proof Superman, it has its own kryptonite: moisture. 

Moisture will cause your gun safe to acquire and develop mold. Guns and other valuables are also susceptible to mold. 

Mold is bad, but rust is worse. Rust will destroy any metal in its way. To protect your gun safe, buy a dehumidifier and make sure to use closed plastic bags for important legal documents. 

Also, make sure to know what other precautions you need to take to protect any other valuables stowed away in the gun safe. All of this is especially essential for people who live in humid places or near the coast. 

Clean Your Gun Safe

Just like anything else you own, you need to clean the gun safe. Don’t use any abrasive chemicals because it will destroy the gloss and coated finish of the safe. 

Use a clean cloth and water to get rid of dust and spots. Consider cleaning it on a weekly basis. If you clean your house weekly, go ahead and clean the safe too.
