There are several actions that you can take to help you maintain visibility when driving through a storm.  There is one important personal action for yourself, actions to take concerning your car, and simple driving techniques.

The most important personal action that you can take is to wear your glasses if you require glasses to have the best level of personal vision that you can attain.  It sounds so simple and it is!  However, many times we haphazardly leave our homes without those glasses on our face.

There are important actions we need to take concerning our cars to maintain and increase visibility when driving through a storm.  First, we need to ensure there is nothing blocking front and read windscreens and they are clean.  Second, headlamps need to be cleaned and angled properly.  Third, even the rearview mirrors need to be as panoramic as possible and properly adjusted.  Fourth, make sure windscreen cleaning reservoirs are full and functioning.  Fifth, apply anti-fogging applications to both the inside and outside of all windows and windscreens.

While driving through a storm, it will help to maintain visibility to drive with the headlamps on low beam.  All the lights on your car should be in good working order.  It is important to keep a safe distance from the car in front to be able to both see better and to allow for safe slowing/stopping distance.  Awareness of all cars on the road should be maintained:  front, side and cars in the rear.

A properly prepared and functioning car helps maintain visibility when driving through a storm.  Fantastic vehicle preparation is not enough.  Once you hit the road in that storm, you must employ all the safe and alert driving tips that you have acquired during your driving experience.  A proper balance between these two important functions will aid in safe driving with the best visibility when driving through a storm.
