How to Maintain Car Exterior So It Looks New
Just like the exterior of your home,
car exteriors also get battered every day by the elements. When not maintained,
the exterior will start to lose its shine and start looking worn out. Moreover,
it can also damage the car’s overall structure. Car maintenance is a safety
concern rather than a superficial one. Therefore, it is essential to maintain
the car exterior. In this article, we discuss ways in which you can maintain
the exterior of your car.
Washing Thoroughly
A high pressure wash of your car is
a great way of getting rid of the dust and grime that has settled on the car.
It is a good idea to give your car a thorough high pressure wash every two
weeks. This car wash can be performed at home or your nearest fuel station that
provides washing services. Alternatively you could also do a
simple bucket wash. A simple car wash includes a bucket of water, a few cups of
car washing powder and a washcloth. Add the car washing powder into the bucket
of water and rub it all over the car using the washcloth. In either case, the
main idea is to wipe off the dust which may contain harmful debris that may,
over time, rust the frame.
Rub the Dirt off the Tires
Not to much surprise, tires get the
dirtiest. Since they come in contact with the road, there is a lot of grime and
dirt caked into their treads. While washing can clean out most of this dirt, it
is hard to get rid of the dirt clinging in between tire treads. You will have
to clean it using a tire cleaner and a stiff brush. While this brush is ideal
for cleaning tires, it might not be suitable for the rims as it can scratch
their surface. So, make sure that the brush is only used for removing the dirt
from the tires and not the rims.
Apply a Protectant
Most parts of the car exterior have
a surface coating of vinyl or plastic. The trim of the windows and car doors
are made up of rubber. These surfaces don’t just need regular cleaning but also
protection from wear and tear. You can provide this protection by applying a coat of rubber or
vinyl protectant. To perform this task, you will first need to let the car dry
after giving it a thorough wash. Once the car is dry, spray a little amount of
the protectant on a rag and then wipe it on the vinyl or plastic surfaces. Wait
for it to be absorbed before wiping the parts again with a clean rag.
Using Wax
If you want to give your car a
shiny, new look then waxing is the best option you have. It doesn’t just add a
sheen and polishes your car but protects your car and ensures outside elements
can’t harm it by sealing the exterior. This is particularly helpful for
preserving the life of the paint as well as the finish of your car.
