How to Kickstart Your Career in the Construction Industry with SkillsFuture Work-Study Programme

by Pace Staff Singapore Pace Academy

In 2010, Building Construction Authority (BCA) launched the Building Information Modelling (BIM) roadmap to encourage the construction industry across Singapore to adopt it. The target was to have at least 80 percent of the industry use it by 2015. Today BIM continues to play a critical role in improving the productivity of professionals and businesses alike. If you are a fresh full-time diploma graduate from any of the 5 polytechnics in Singapore, consider SP PACE Academy’s Specialist Diploma in Building Information Modelling Management to kickstart your career in the Construction industry. This 12-month SkillsFuture Work-Study programme is also offered as a Part-time Diploma Programme to non-WSP candidates.

Benefits of Work-Study Programme in BIM Management

Pursue Higher Studies and A Career at the Same Time

Young graduates often find themselves at crossroads, as they try to settle for either work or study. However, why trade one for the other when you can get both, and gain an advantage over your peers? Our Work-Study Programme allows participants to pursue an industry-recognised Specialist Diploma while they work as full-time employees at participating companies from the Building and Construction industry. They will also receive structured classroom training at Singapore Polytechnic.

Classroom Training in Industry-Relevant Knowledge and Skills

Our WSP in BIM Management provides participants with in-depth knowledge on the following:

● Introduction to BIM concepts and basics

● BIM deployment within an organisation

● BIM for design coordination and documentation

● BIM protocols involving Quality Assurance

● Construction planning and coordination

● BIM application areas in construction projects

Participants are taught via lectures as well as laboratory practical.

On-The-Job Training from Industry Mentors

WSP participants are hired as full-time employees of companies participating in the programme, and receive a competitive starting salary. They apply the concepts learnt at SP to actual workplace scenarios, under the guidance of their industry mentor.

Each participant is assigned a mentor during their on-the-job training. The mentor helps the participant understand and address workplace changes, and keeps a tab on their progress. They also train a participant in soft skills, as well as corporate processes and tools.

Incentive and Career Progression

Each eligible Singaporean receives a sign-on incentive of $5,000, which is credited to their bank account in 2 tranches. At the end of the programme, a WSP participant might get an offer from their company to continue working for them. Promotion and potential salary increase might also be on the cards.
