by Lucas Smith Technology Expert

What would you do if your entire digital life—work files, email accounts, social networking accounts, and even purchased music and family photos—were held hostage for ransom? You have 24 hours to pay $5,000 or you will lose everything.

It is possible if you do not keep Windows updated.

Why? Because an out-of-date computer is more vulnerable. Updates to your operating system help keep your computer safe from the newest malware and other dangers. But how do these updates work, what causes them, and how can they be altered?

Install Windows 7, 8, and 10 Updates have made installation updates faster and more user-friendly, but updating Windows may appear to be a headache, always appearing at inconvenient moments.

Why Are Operating System Updates Necessary?

However, there are valid reasons why Microsoft and other OS developers push for updates. It is worthwhile to devote time to fine-tuning your system's update settings for the following reasons:

System security is strengthened by updates. Malware is constantly evolving, and your operating system must stay up. Microsoft may not support older versions of Windows, increasing your chance of catching viruses and other dangerous programmes. Some upgrades close security gaps, making it more difficult for fraudsters to acquire your sensitive information.

Updates make it easier to work with new software.Every day, new software is launched, and these new programs—particularly device drivers, such as printer software—work better with the most recent versions of Windows.

Updates improve the performance of your machine. Finally, Microsoft upgrades Windows on a regular basis to enhance its performance. After an update, you may notice that your system is more responsive and efficient.

How to Install Windows 10 Update?

With Windows 10, Microsoft takes a "set it and forget it" strategy, favouring automated upgrades above user control. This has advantages and disadvantages, but with a little tweaking, it is just as dependable as the previous approach.

However, Windows 10 requires a bit more effort. Here's how to keep those "timely" updates under control:

How to Start Updating

In the background, Windows 10 will download and install updates. When a restart is necessary, Windows will notify you and allow you to choose whether to restart immediately or later. Remember that if you put off the restart for too long, Windows will ultimately need it.

However, you may still manually check for new updates.

·         Open the Windows 10 settings menu by clicking the Start button or the flag symbol in the taskbar's bottom left corner.

·         Select the "Update & Security" option.

·         Select "Windows Update," which should take you to the screen seen below.

·         "Check for updates" button to check for updates.
