The DTT signal is good enough to be picked up by an internal antenna, especially in cities. However, it is important that the antennas are of good quality and they are preferably located near windows to facilitate the reception of the signal. Below we can know details of antenna installation from Antennasystems.com.au.

Avoid placing the antenna in very closed places and with tall buildings around. If an internal use antenna is not enough to receive DTT services, you must replace it with an external use antenna.

Installation of internal use antenna on a TV with a DVB-T2 tuner

Connect the antenna cable terminal to the 'Antenna In' input on the back of the TV.

Locate the Automatic channel search option in the TV setup menu. This process must be done when you want to find new channels or stations.

Installation of internal use antenna on a TV without an integrated tuner

  • Locate the antenna at the 'Antenna In' input on the back of the decoder.

  • Connect the decoder to the TV with the HDMI cable. If your TV does not have this input, you can also use the RCA cable output (the three yellow, white and red connectors).

  • Turn on the decoder and the TV.

  • Select on TV the corresponding input to the connection you chose to receive the signal from your DTT decoder: HDMI or RCA.

  • Select the decoder configuration menu for the Automatic channel search option. This process must be done when you want to find new channels or stations.

Technical specifications of internal use antennas

Set of technical characteristics that the internal use antennas must-have for the reception of the DTT signal. You can use an antenna for internal use if you are located in a clear area or in the main city, preferably you should place it near a window. You should keep in mind that in some cases there is no direct line of sight with the DTT station, therefore, it is necessary that the antenna be able to deliver a C/N (Carrier to Noise) signal level of at least 23dB to the decoder. The more gain the antenna has, the better the signal reception.

Factors that influence the DTT signal

- High noise areas: places where there is noise that can generate difficulties at the time of reception and impair the conditions to tune the television signal such as in industrial areas.

- Tuning in a location where there is no line of sight with the DTT station: in these cases the reception will depend on the bounces of the signal emitted with buildings, mountains, trees and the different obstacles that are in the way. There may be areas where the bounces have degraded the source signal to such an extent that it is impossible for the antennas to capture it.

- Location of the antenna for internal use: it is recommended to locate the antenna in a place near a window. The farther you are from an open space, the reception quality will decrease. It will improve reception if the antenna is located in the window that has the best line of sight with the transmitting antenna.

- Antenna polarization: The signals are emitted horizontally, but due to the bounces of the antenna with the obstacles that it finds in its path it can change its orientation, therefore it is important to test different locations of the receiving antenna.

- Connections and connectors: It is important to use coaxial cables in good condition. In case it is necessary to extend the connection of the internal use antenna to the decoder. The appropriate elements must be used to connect the coaxial cable connectors, which will reduce the signal losses and achieve a better reception quality.
