Swimming is a versatile sport. Some people are good at it from the pool floats days whereas other have to learn it later in life. There are different swimming strokes that you can practice in swimming but all of them will require you to work on your technique which is quite hard to get right.

There are times when a kid would have a better technique then you but that would be because he might have started swimming from the age of 3 and followed all the basics properly whereas you on the other hand might have ignore a number of tips from your trainer.

Everyone has a different grip on swimming technique. You might be better than one and worse than the other so this means that you have to work on your technique if your opponent is better than you. There are a few tips that will help you improve your swimming technique so let us look at a few of them.

1.       Horizontal Body Position

If you know how to swim then the first thing that you might have learned would be keeping your body horizontal in the water. We all know the rule but only a few of us follow it properly. Moving in water means that you are using your force to cut through the water and push your body forward. If you want this action to take place smoothly then you need to reduce the drag and that would be only possible if your stay as parallel to the ground as you can because having poor posture will affect your speed and form.

2.       Lungs as Fulcrum

You swim by keeping your by keeping your body horizontal in the water. You use your hands and feet to create the propulsion force and cut through water but during all that motion your lungs act as your supporting point.  When you maintain that horizontal position in the water your lungs act as a Fulcrum. Since your lower body is heavier than the upper body thus putting more force in the front of your lungs will help you balance the arms with the legs which will help you swim faster. And the best part is that you don’t have to use any extra energy for this as well.

3.       Front Quadrant Swimming

Front Quadrant Swimming is the technique when you use your arms to counterbalance your lungs in water to stay in the horizontal position. The best thing about this form is that it helps you extend your body and keep it long and point is water at both ends. This streamlined position helps you reduce drag and cut through the water more easily. Extended swimming helps you swim faster as well.

4.       Breathe during rotation

Most beginner swimmers breathe during swimming by lifting their head above water. What they don’t understand is that it completely breaks their form and increases drag which makes it hard for them to move forward. So instead of lifting your head try to breathe when you rotate from one side to another. You can follow the motion and you will get used to it with practice.
