How to identify Teen Depression
When it comes to
teenagers it becomes a little difficult to identify whether they are going
through a moody phase or they are actually suffering from depression, as we all
know there are many mood swings, a behavior change that takes place because of
their hormones when kids are teenagers. If you know your kid you will be able
to figure out if they are going through a phase or actually suffering from
depression.
Eating signs- if you think your kid is under depression, pay attention to their eating habits, understand if they are losing or gaining weight. It is very important to monitor such activities.
Second is an irregular sleeping pattern, which is long or odd hours. If your kid feels lethargic or unmotivated or has lost interest in things they used to enjoy earlier this may be something you should get alarmed.
It is very important for you to make them believe that in any case, uneasy feeling, problems or depression you are with them, this will stop them from doing anything wrong. Make them feel motivated, and if you feel the situation is not under control, or you want them to feel better, always seek the help of a professional therapist who can examine and give the best solutions for them.
In boys you can see a lot of rages, sometimes the depression is outed by a lot of anger. They might feel normal about these things but if you can get them into talking, or taking some therapy it can be highly beneficial. Get them into talking and ask what and how they feel, is there any change they feel in themselves, how they feel about their lives, is there something bad happening which is making them so upset. Always keep an open conversation about these things and do not ever hesitate to take professional therapist opinion.
All this can be very overwhelming for both kids and parents, but a therapist will always be a better option than to let things turn into serious events which may be harmful.
To make them more comfortable and easy to talk to, you can talk about your own experiences, what you have been through during your adolescence. These stories will help them open and talk. Another good source is their close friends and shows them how concerned you are about your kid.
These small things can be very helpful to recognize and deal with kids who face depression if you can make out if they are suffering you can get them to talk with a therapist which will help them in the long term.
