How to Get the Best out of Dating

by Emma L. Business consultant

One of the main goals for most people is to find someone to share a life with, but, this isn't always easy to achieve. Finding a perfect pair of shoes is sometimes impossible, not to mention a lifetime partner! So, if your mind is set on finding the right person, it's time to get yourself out there and find your significant other, so here are a few tips on how to get the best out of dating.

Get out there!

To find a partner, the first step is to get out there and start meeting new people. Fortunately, nowadays, there are many different ways to meet people and feel out the offer. If you prefer a more straightforward approach, join various clubs and teams where you’ll be able to meet and chat with people who share similar interests. You can try volunteering which is an excellent way to broaden your mind, meet different people and give back to society. Also, make an effort to go out whenever you're invited – don't stay in, but rather accept the invitation to dinners, movie nights and parties.

Be communicative and friendly

Obviously, you don't automatically owe anyone your kindness or friendship, but in general, people are more attracted to friendly, kind and smiling faces. And when you present yourself in an agreeable manner, people will tend to gravitate to you which will open new opportunities for forming long-term friendships and genuine connections. This can be quite a challenge for introverts and those suffering from anxiety or stress, but with some effort and practice, you'll master self-control and positive thinking that will help you be more relaxed and easygoing.

Give dating apps a go

In today’s world, online dating apps have become one of the main ways people meet in general. There’s a wide range of apps catering to different needs and goals, all of them suitable for meeting others, sharing experiences and creating genuine bonds. For instance, if you’re adventurous and dynamic and you need more financial security, there’s a great sugar dating app that will get you in touch with prosperous potential partners. In any case, you can connect to a person of similar interests and increase your chances of finding an ideal partner.

Look for structured activities

If you like in-person interactions but you’re shy and introverted, consider being part of more structured social activities. This could mean participating in game nights at your local pub, joining a smaller gym, supporting local sports leagues, or joining various workshops, classes or church groups.

Look for an activity you find enjoyable but where you’ll be able to interact with like-minded people. Structured activities offer a common interest and keep you busy doing something you like when you’re not sure what to say, which seems more appropriate than focusing solely on conversation as it is in most typical daily settings and activities.

Watch out for red flags

When meeting new people, listen to your instinct. Red flags are all those instances of disagreeable behaviour, whether they’re small or big, that trigger an alarm in your gut and brain trying to tell you something is off with your potential partner.

For example, if you want someone who is faithful and devoted, then it's a red flag if they keep texting with other people, have secrets and won’t introduce you to their friends. If you’re looking for a kind and loving person, it’s alarming if you see them treating others disrespectfully or, even worse, treating you in the same manner. If trust tops your lists, be wary of broken promises.

Don’t look for perfection

Looking for perfection will leave you feeling miserable. You need to accept the fact that people are flawed but it’s their qualities that matter. Look for someone that matches your energy, has similar interests and dreams, treats you respectfully and makes you smile, not cry. There’s good and bad in every relationship, but if you’re with someone who is compatible, you simply won’t sweat the small stuff and you’ll be willing to work on yourselves and improve.

Embrace the awkwardness

Social situations are often uneasy and awkward moments are almost unavoidable. When you venture into the dating world, don't pressure yourself to steer clear of the uncomfortable at any cost. Let it happen, embrace the awkwardness because that is a clear sign you are getting out of your comfort zone and testing your limits. It's progress you should strive for, not perfection. And practice makes perfect!

In conclusion

Loneliness is a heavy burden and finding someone to share your life with is a task that should be taken seriously. Hopefully, using these tips, you’ll be able to get the best out of dating and easily find your soul mate!
