How to get rid of dry skin?

Dry skin or xerosisis a common skin problem. It can occur due to internal as well as environmental factors, and people of any age group can suffer from this. Dry skin can cause flaky skin, peeling out of the skin, skin irritations, and redness. The factors that can cause dry skin are-

  • Climate- Some places are extremely dry and can remove moisture from the body.
  • Age- The skin becomes dry with age. The children need extra moisture and are prone to dry skin. Also, elders get dry skin with age.
  • Water- Bathing for longer time or swimming can causedry skin due to elements like chlorine, fluorine in water.
  • Skin problems- The skin problems like eczema can make the skin excessively dry and the conditions like psoriasis can cause dry, flaky skin.
  • Occupation- The people who are barber, maids often use water frequently that causes the skin to dry. The nurses or doctors using sanitizers can dry out the skin.

Xerosis can cause dermatitis, which is inflammation of the skin that leads to itchy red skin. We can treat dry skin by taking proper care of it-

  1. Coconut oil- It is considered to be one of the best moisturizers for skin and hair. It moisturizes the skin and prevents dry skin.
  2. Olive oil- It is also a moisturizer for skin that is beneficial.
  3. Honey- It has anti-inflammatory properties and heals the inflammation of dry skin.
  4. Aloe Vera- It is a moisturizer and also gives a soothing impact on the dry skin and decreases the inflammation and redness caused.
  5. Reduce the time duration of having a shower to 10-15 min.
  6. Do not bath with hot water rather try warm water that will not dry the skin. You can even try an oatmeal bath to hydrate and moisturize the skin.
  7. Try consulting a dermatologist in case the condition is severe, and home remedies don’t work.
