How to Fix QuickBooks Error 15101?

The feature of the Payroll of QuickBooks desktop is a great addition for small and medium-sized businesses. There is a need to double-check or export your data as the Payroll automatically merges the data. You can pay your employees via paycheck or can directly deposit the payment to their bank accounts. Inuit releases updates regularly to counter errors and bugs.  But sometimes users face QuickBooks error 15101 while downloading the updates. With this blog, we will discuss the possible causes and the troubleshooting methods to fix the error.

Causes for QuickBooks Error 15101?

There are several reasons responsible for the error, some of them are discussed below:

  1. The QuickBooks Desktop digital signature certificate is missing or not available.

  2. There is some damage to the folders and files of QuickBooks due to virus or malware infection.

  3. Some previous updates are causing issues in the QuickBooks. 

  4. Some third-party apps are interfering with the update procedure.

  5. The Internet Explorer is not set to the default browser. 

  6. The Internet Explorer configuration is at fault for the error.

  7. The Windows Firewall is blocking or interrupting the connection between the Intuit Server and QuickBooks

Steps to Resolve QuickBooks Error 15101

Above are the reasons by which the error 15101 occurs. Here are troubleshooting methods to fix it.

Method 1: Use Latest Signature Certificate

When the users download the QuickBooks Payroll Updates, Intuit Servers request the verification of the QuickBooks Desktop digital signature. In case the certificate goes missing, the user has to install it by the given methods:

  1. Firstly, close the QuickBooks and move to C:\ Program Files\ Intuit\ QuickBooks.

  2. Secondly, search for the QBW32.exe file and right-click on it.

  3. Then, click on the Properties and go to the Digital Signature tab.

  4. Now, make sure that Inuit is selected in the list of signatures.

  5. After that, choose Details and tap on the View Certificate option under the Digital Signature Details window. 

  6. Tap on Install Certificate and choose Next.

  7. Click on Finish and restart the system.

  8. Reopen the QuickBooks and try downloading the updates again.

  9. If QuickBooks error 15101 persists, then follow the next solution. 

Method 2: Reset All Previous Updates

The previously downloaded update can cause errors while downloading the latest updates. Clearing all the previous updates can fix the error. Here are the steps:

  1. Firstly, go to the QuickBooks Desktop and select the Help menu.

  2. Then, click on Update QuickBooks Desktop and go to the Update Now tab.

  3. Now, tick the Reset Update checkbox and tap on the Get Updates.

  4. After the download completes, shut and reboot the QuickBooks.

  5. Revisit the Help menu and clock on Update QuickBooks Desktop.

  6. Under the Overview tab, choose the Update Now option.
