How to fix IP address conflict error in Windows 10

This mostly happens when another system also assigned the same IP address as yours. The issue occurs when the router gives the same IP address to multiple computers, sometimes it also occurs even with one computer in a network. The error is quite common and can be solved easily. Here are some effective solutions to fix this error.

Fixes to solve IP address conflict error in Windows 10:

Sometimes because of temporary glitch router fails to assign the right IP address to your system. And this results in IP address conflict error, at this time restarting your router modem will fix the problem. More fixes you can try,

•    Configure your network adapter.

•    Reset IP/TCP configuration.

•    Troubleshoot network adapter.

•    Upgrade network adapter drivers.

Steps to configure your network adapter:

1.    Launch the ‘Run command’ (Win + R).

2.    Type ‘ncpa.cpl’ in the run command field.

3.    And click ‘OK.’

4.    You’ll see network connection window on the screen.

5.    Find your active network adapter and right click on it.

6.    Select ‘Properties’.

7.    Click ‘Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)’ to select.

8.    And click ‘Properties.’

9.    Click the mark the radio button of “Obtain an IP address automatically.”

10.    Then select “Obtain DNS server address automatically.”

11.    Click “OK” to save changes.

12.    Now, restart your PC.

Steps to reset TCP/IP configuration:

Flushing DNS cache and renewing the IP address will solve most of the network and internet related problems. Here is the command for resetting TCP/IP configuration completely.

1.    Open search and find the command prompt.

2.    Right click on command prompt.

3.    And click ‘Run as administrator.’

4.    Now, perform the command:

“netsh Winsock reset”

“netsh int IP reset c:resetlog. txt”

5.    Now use the below command to reset network configuration:




6.    After completing, restart your PC.

How to troubleshoot network adapter

If the program is not fixed yet, start troubleshooting network adapter. Running troubleshooter will automatically search for the trouble and fix it. Here is how to run troubleshooter for the network adapter.

1.    Open ‘settings’ (Win + I).

2.    Settings app will open.

3.    Click on ‘Update and security.’

4.    Click ‘Troubleshoot.’

5.    Select ‘network adapter’ from the right side.

6.    Then click ‘Run the troubleshooter.’

7.    Wait for the troubleshooter to detect and fix the problem.

8.    Once the process finishes, restart your PC.

Disabling IPv6 also fix the IP address conflict error, you can also try it on your Windows 10 computer.

Steps to disable IPv6 in Windows 10:

1.    Launch the ‘Run command’ (Win + R).

2.    Type ‘ncpa.cpl’ in the run command field.

3.    And click ‘OK.’

4.    Click and uncheck ‘Internet protocol version 6 (TCP/IPv6)’.

5.    Click “OK” to save changes.

6.    Restart your PC.

How to upgrade network adapter drivers

Upgrading drivers will fix most of the problems if still, you’re unable to connect to internet then update your network adapter drivers.

Steps to update drivers:

1.    Press ‘Win + X’ button.

2.    Click ‘Device manager’.

3.    Look for the network adapter’s installed driver.

4.    Then right click on the installed driver and select ‘Update driver.’

5.    Select ‘search driver software automatically’.

6.    Wait, it will update the driver, if available.

7.    After completing, restart your PC.
