How to Fix Google Chrome “Virus Scan Failed” Error?

Chrome is amongst the best and most secure web browsers. Sometimes, when trying to download something, users may get the Virus Scan Failed error. This error usually occurs when your device is infected. Read on and learn how to fix this Google Chrome error.

Update Chrome to the Newest Build

  1. You should launch Chrome and select the vertical ellipsis menu icon.
  2. Then choose the Settings option.
  3. Navigate to the left side panel of the screen, move down to the bottom, and choose the About Chrome option.
  4. Reach the right-side panel of the screen; look at whether there is an available update.
  5. Once you update, select the button of Relaunch and look at whether Chrome can run a malware scan.

Remove Data and Cookies of the Chrome

  1. Launch the Chrome Browser and select the vertical ellipsis menu icon.
  2. Then go to the More Tools option.
  3. You should select the ‘Clear Browsing Data’ from the sub-menu.
  4. Once you reach the Advanced section, click on the Time Range of the Al-Time, then choose the categories that you would like to remove.
  5. Go to the button of Clear Data, and once pop-up, verify to remove the data.
  6. You should reopen the browser and look at whether to remove the error.
  7. Otherwise, select the vertical ellipsis menu icon and select the Settings from the menu.
  8. Go to the left panel of the screen and extend the Advanced then choose the ‘Reset and Clean Up.’
  9. You should reach the right-side panel of the screen, choose the ‘Restore Settings to Their Original Defaults’ option and verify to reset the settings.
  10. Finally, reopen the browser and check the issue.

Install the Chrome Browser Again

  1. You should shut Chrome then stop all the background processes via the Task Manager.
  2. Then go to the Windows Search section and input ‘control panel’ into it and hit the Enter key.
  3. You will see a Control Panel on your screen.
  4. Navigate to the ‘Uninstall a Program’ option.
  5. Reach the installed programs list and select Google Chrome, then right-click on it, choose the button of Uninstall.
  6. Then select the ‘remove the user data’ option when asked.
  7. Later, pursue the pop-up on the window to uninstall the Chrome then reboot the system.
  8. Once reboot, invoke the File Explorer then go to the pursuing folder: ‘%LocalAppData%\Google\.’
  9. After that, remove the folder of Chrome then reboot the system.
  10. 10.Once reboot, install Chrome again.
  11. Now, once you reinstall, invoke the Chrome and don’t log in to the Chrome but run the malware scan through Chrome.
