How to Fix File Crashing on Windows?

Sometimes unwanted malware and viruses in our systems lead to file and software corruption. These damaged files then become the major issue and end up causing system crashes. Here is what you need to do to fix the issue.


Remove the Temporary Files

Follow these steps and learn how to remove the temporary files from your system.

  1. Hold the Windows and R buttons altogether over the keyboard to invoke the Run section.
  2. After that, insert ‘%temp%’ into it and select the OK button.
  3. Then hold the ‘Control + A’ to choose the whole file.
  4. Go to the chosen files and right-click on it, then choose the Delete button.
  5. Now, you can see each temporary file should be removed.

Perform a Disk Check 

Here is how you can perform a disk check.

  1. Go to the Windows Search section on the system.
  2. After that, input ‘cmd’ into it and select the OK button to invoke the Command Prompt.
  3. Then select the Command Prompt, and right-click on it, then choose ‘Run as administrator.
  4. Thereafter, input ‘chkdsk c: /f’ and select the OK button.
  5. Windows will perform a disk check on the drive C.
  6. In case the PC asks you if you would like to schedule the check to the next attempt of restarts, input ‘Y’ and press the Enter button.
  7. Finally, reboot the system.

Perform SFC

Follow these steps and conduct a proper scan of your device.

  1. Go to the Windows Search section on the system.
  2. After that, input ‘cmd’ into it and select the OK button to invoke the Command Prompt.
  3. Then select the Command Prompt, and right-click on it, then choose ‘Run as administrator.
  4. Navigate to the screen of Command Prompt, input the pursuing command: sfc /scannow.
  5. Then hit the Enter key.
  6. Windows will start the scan process and try to repair them whether there is any while the procedure.

Perform a Memory Check

To perform a memory check, follow the steps mentioned below.

  1. Hold the Windows and R buttons altogether over the keyboard to invoke the Run section.
  2. Thereafter, input ‘mdsched.exe’ into it and hit the Enter button.
  3. You should select the ‘Restart now and check for problems (Recommended).’
  4. Windows will reboot and display you the checking progress.
  5. Now, you have to wait until you finish the test.

Check the Crash Dump

Here is how you can check for a crash dump.

  1. Navigate to the Windows menu on your system and click on it.
  2. After that, click on the Control Panel.
  3. Then choose the ‘System and Security’ option then pick the System option.
  4. You should click on the ‘Advanced system settings’ option.
  5. Beneath the Advanced section, choose the Settings option below the ‘Startup and Recovery’ option.
  6. Reach the list of ‘Write debugging information’ and choose the ‘Small memory dump (256 KB)’ then pick the OK button.
  7. Now, reboot the system.

Perform System Restore 

Follow these steps and conduct a system restore.

  1. You should delete each external device and hold the power key to start the system.
  2. Then press the F8 button.
  3. Reach the window of ‘Advanced Boot Options’ then go to the ‘Repair your computer’ and hold the Enter button.
  4. Now, go to the menu of ‘System Recovery Options’ and choose the ‘System Restore’ then pursue the steps.
