How to fix error “MS-Word has encountered a problem and needs to close” Error On Mac?

Below provided are the steps to fix successfully the MS-Word error while working on Mac. The steps are :

STEP 1- RESETTING MS-WORD FOR MAC PREFERENCES.

The corrupted MS-Word may cause the error. Please note- the step may remove the custom preferences like keyboard shortcuts or the changes to the toolbars or dictionaries.

  1. You need close all the programs which are working.
  2. Now click on the Go menu, click Home, followed by the Library.

Please note- If you’re using OS X10.7 (Lion) or above, Click on Go button, hold down the Option key and choose Library.

  1. Open the preferences folder and move the com.microsoft.Word.plist to the desktop. Continue with the next step, if you can’t find out the file.
  2. In the preferences, open the MS folder and move com.microsoft.Word.prefs.plist to the desktop.

Please note- If you have Service pack 2 installed. Then open Application Support followed by MS instead of Preferences, Microsoft.

  1. You need to start MS-Word. Do you still face the issues?
  • No! then quit Office set-up MS-Word. Move one of the files back to its default location and test again. If the error still appears, then the file you moved back was corrupted. Move the file to Trash.

If there is no more error show up then move the rest of the other files from the desktop to the Trash. Congratulation the issue got solved.

  • Yes! Then quit the MS-Word and restore both the files to the original location. And move to the next step.
  1. Again, quit all the programs, that was working.
  2. Follow point number (2)
  3. Now open the Application Support folder, followed by Microsoft folder, Office folder and then the User Templates folder.
  4. Search for the Normal.dotm file and move it to the desktop.
  5. You need to start MS-Word. Do you still face the issues?
  • No! then quit Office set-up MS-Word. Move the Normal.dotm file from the desktop to the Trash. Congratulation the issue got solved.
  • Yes! Then quit the MS-Word and restore the files to the original location. And move to the next step.

STEP 2- CREATE A NEW USER ACCOUNT.

A corrupted or infected User account may also cause an error as such. So you need to make a new user account. If it’s your personal computer, then you can straightaway log into the Administrator Account. If its company then you need to contact the system administrator.

STEP 3- CLEAN START THE OPERATING SYSTEM.

Its suggested to clean start the operating system, to check if other programs interfere with MS-Word for Mac. To clean the operating system, please follow the correct steps. If the problem still persists, follow the next step.

STEP 4- RUN REPAIR DISK PERMISSIONS.

You can always try Repair Disk Permissions option to fix the issues in Mac OS X 10.2 or later versions. To use the Repair Disk Permissions option:

  • Click on Utilities option, by clicking on the Go menu.
  • Start the Disk Utility program.
  • From the desktop, choose the primary hard disk drive.
  • Click on the tab First Aid
  • Then click on the Repair Disk Permissions.

STEP 5- REMOVE AND RE-INSTALL MS-WORD FOR MAC

To remove MS-Word for Mac device, you need to follow correct steps to remove it. Please follow the correct steps to remove it, successfully.

For Re-installation, MS-Word for Mac. The steps are:

  • Visit Office.com/setup website.
  • On the given option of filling the Office setup Product key code, enter your activation code from the previously purchased Office keycode.
  • In the Account page of Office setup, choose as per your situation between Sign-
  • in or Sign-up and read the further instructions to follow up the next steps.
  • Click on Download option and the downloading will start for your System.
  • Now just wait for the system to finish up the downloading process. Don’t close the downloading window. After the downloading process done, you need to launch the product on Mac, Follow further steps for a successful installation.
  • Your device is ready with MS-Word in it.
