HOW TO FIND A PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER’S PORTFOLIO

by A.Rrajani Photographer A.Rrajani

Portfolio photographers, as those who take on the responsibility of creating and preserving a photographer’s portfolio, are often expected to have a deep knowledge of all aspects of photography, not only the technical side but also the business end. Yet, what many professional photographers do not realize is that the photographer’s business skills should definitely come into play while preparing a portfolio for an upcoming job. Photography is an art form; therefore, each aspect of it must be mastered in order for the art to flourish. Here are some tips to keep in mind as you compile your photographic portfolio for an interview with a prospective employer.

MAKE SURE THAT YOUR PHOTOS ARE APPROPRIATELY THEMED FOR THE TYPE OF JOB YOU ARE APPLYING FOR.

It is a good idea to have one theme for yourself and one general theme for your portfolio, depending on what sort of photography you will be doing. Some photographers choose to focus on outdoor, wildlife, or landscape photography.

Make sure that you understand the types of photography that you will be doing. Many photographers have a general tendency to choose subjects that are familiar to them, regardless of the style or subject matter that they specialize in. Make sure that you understand the different styles of photography that you will be using. A portfolio photographer should be comfortable describing what kind of work they do. A generalist portfolio photographer may be able to describe the type of work that they do with ease,

but those that are highly skilled may prefer to limit their descriptions of the work to one or two special techniques. Be sure to select a portfolio photographer that you feel comfortable communicating with.
