Work place safety is something that no one takes lightly now a days. However small the company may be work place safety of great importance. This is not just from the perspective of being sued but also for the safety of the employees.

Work place safety is of more importance in construction sites and big industries. It is the duty of the employer to educate all of their employees of the perils at the work place and also train them on how to avoid being involved in an accident. Many companies go as far as to having drills that show the employees how to react in case things do go wrong. This goes as step further to help avoid accidents.  But there are times when in spite of all the precautions accidents to happen and employees do get injured. There is an institute that is involved in WSIB claims management which exist for the sheer reason to help people (employees) when accidents do happen. Thus if you are suffering from a work place accident or illness the first thing to do is to inform your employer about the situation. If additional aid is required or if it is a major accident then the employer is required to send a report of the accident or disease to the WSIB with a span of three days. As for the employee suffering from the incident it is necessary for him to get medical attention right away. It is also required for the hospital that is treating you to send a Health Professional’s report to the WSIB. In addition to which such incidents are also reported to the health union or safety representative if one exists.

It is possible to file a WSIB claim in case of a work place incident. In order to do so you need to complete the Worker's Report of Injury/Disease form and return it to them. This form is available from the website and support is available at the toll-free number at 1800-387-0750. It is also necessary to allow he doctor treating you to inform the employer about your functional abilities. This functional abilities report provides the employer detailed information of the limitation of the employee due to his work related injuries. Contrary to belief this report does not include information about your medical condition. A copy of this also needs to be submitted to the WSIB.

The claim is then processed by the WSIB and depending on the situation the claim can be either approved or rejected.
