Many men find jeans to be an important part of their wardrobe, and thanks to the durability and comfort of a pair of Levi’s, it’s not hard to see why. However, you know you can’t buy endless pairs of jeans, or perhaps you want to buy one expensive pair and hold onto it for a while. Fortunately, there are some easy ways you can extend the lifespan of your men’s Levi jeans in New York City.

Limit When You Wash Them

Jeans are not like other clothing. Washing jeans frequently can fade them and wear down the fabric over a period of time. To prevent this from happening, don’t wash your jeans often. In fact, refrain from washing them for as long as you can. Once your jeans start stretching at the knees or the waist, that’s when you should pop them into the washer. Washing should also be done carefully. Use cold water, don’t use bleach, don’t wash with other clothes, and choose a delicate washing cycle. In addition, turn your Levi’s inside out. This will help preserve the color.

Hand Wash Your Jeans

To keep your jeans looking like they just came off the rack, your best bet is to forego the washing machine altogether and wash your Levi’s by hand. Washing machines can cause stress on your jeans and possibly damage them over time. Hand washing your jeans is easy. Fill up your bathtub or any large container with cold water, then add a little detergent. Turn your jeans inside out and then soak them in the water for about an hour. Do not rub your jeans. After about an hour, take your jeans out of the water and hang them to dry. Don’t put them in the path of sunlight.

Drying and Dry Cleaning

Your dryer is not your jeans’ best friend. Denim can be damaged if heated up too much. As an alternative, air dry your jeans instead. Lay your men’s Levi jeans in New York City flat or hang them up by the belt loops. You may want to roll them up in a towel to soak up excessive water from the jeans to speed up the drying process. Some time in the dryer is fine if the jeans have started to stretch and require some tightening. For a full-on alternative to any washing, dry cleaning your jeans is the best solution, as it removes all the dirt and stains without the harshness of washing. Be aware, however, that this is also your most expensive choice.

Guard Against Tearing

A prime way to keep your men’s Levi jeans in New York City looking as pristine as possible is to do all you can to prevent the fabric from tearing. Once jeans start fraying, the damage will only get worse. For example, we’re constantly putting our cell phones, wallets, keys and other items inside our pockets, which stresses the fabric and sooner or later will create holes in the denim. If you want to keep holes from appearing around your jeans pockets, refrain from regularly sticking bulky materials inside your pockets.

Making sure your Levi’s last as long as possible is just a matter of treating them with special care. Fortunately, it’s easy and doesn’t require much effort.
