How To Dress For A Wedding
Dressing up for a wedding is probably one of the hardest
things a woman has to do. Not only is it about finding the perfect balance
between under dressed and overdressed, you also need to look your best without
looking better than the bride. As if that wasn’t enough, to add more madness to
the mix, formal dresses are almost always expensive. Pair that up with finding
the right accessories, to get the perfect attire for a wedding. So what exactly
can you wear to a wedding and what can you not? And how do you manage to do all
that while staying under a tight budget?
Here’s some advice on how to figure out the perfect attire for a wedding without going overboard with your expenses.
How To Decide What To Wear?
There are a couple of do’s and don’ts for a wedding that
every guest must follow.
Figure out the formality of the event through the invitation
and dress accordingly. If it is a black tie event, you need to be dressed
extremely formally. The venue will also give you an idea about the location,
weather, if it’s an indoor event or outdoor, so you can manage your attire
appropriately.
Do not, under any circumstances, wear white. There must only
be one white dress in the room and it must definitely not be yours. It is the
bride’s day and you must let her have it.
You can always dress down than dress up so it is much better
to be overdressed than underdressed. Turn up wearing more so you can take a
couple of things off if you feel overdressed but turn up at a wedding
underdressed and you can definitely not do anything about it.
Show skin, but only enough that is deemed appropriate. Show
too much skin and you will pass the bar of decency and formality. If you decide
to wear a strapless dress, make sure you don’t show too much cleavage, or too
much skin in other areas. Learn to balance sultry with decent, instead of going
all out. Again, remember that this is not your day.
Make up is mandatory but try not to look like a cartoon.
Wear makeup in moderation and not like you decided to cake your face in a load
of color.
Wear prints, but don’t go for single, solid colored dresses,
in case you end up wearing the same color as the bridesmaids and then have to
spend the rest of the function explaining to everyone how you are not one, and
that it was merely a coincidence.
Do not dress too casually, even if it is not such a formal affair. You owe it to the couple to dress nicely and not like an oaf.
