How to Disable the Touchscreen Feature in your Windows Laptop?

by John Clarke Freelancer
The touchscreen is one of the best features available in a device. Along with making your work simple, it also lets you use your device anywhere. With the touchscreen feature, you can even use your device in situations where you aren’t able to open or use the keyboard comfortably. You can navigate and access all the menus and folders in your device with just your fingertips.

Along with a touchscreen device, your operating system should also have the touchscreen compatibility, in order to manage the touchscreen settings. Microsoft Windows is designed to work well with touchscreen tablets, laptops, and 2-in-1 devices. Either your device has touchscreen compatibility or not, in Microsoft Windows, the touchscreen feature is enabled by default.

However, no one will want to disable the touchscreen feature on their device if it is working well. But, unfortunately, there will be many situations when you need to disable it.

Here is how to disable the touchscreen feature in your Windows laptop

Disabling touch screen feature is Microsoft Windows 8 or Windows 10 laptop

You’ll need to access the Device Manager settings in your laptop to disable the touchscreen feature on it. You can go to the Control Panel or directly use the Windows Search utility to access the Device Manager. Here is how.

Start your Windows laptop.
Launch the Windows Search utility by doing a left-click on the ‘Windows’ button at the lower-left corner or by using ‘Windows + S’ shortcut keys.
Enter ‘Device Manager’ into it.
Click on the ‘Device Manager’ under the Best Results. Doing so opens the Device Manager window on the screen.
Now, look for ‘Human Interface Devices’ and click the ‘Arrow’ next to it.
Find the ‘HID-compliant touch screen’ under the opened options and click it to select.
After that, click the ‘Action’ option located at the top left corner of the Device Manager window.
Select ‘Disable Device’ in the opened context menu.
Now, read the warning dialog pop-up on the screen, and select ‘Yes.’
As soon as you confirm disabling, the touchscreen feature will be disabled in your Windows 8 or Windows 10 laptop.

Disabling touch screen feature is Microsoft Windows 7 laptop

In order to disable touchscreen in your Windows 7 laptop, you’ll need to go to the Pen and Touch settings instead of Device Manager.

Start your Windows laptop.
Open ‘Control Panel’.
Find and click on ‘Pen and Touch.’
Open the ‘Touch’ tab.
Look for the ‘Use your finger as an input device’ option and deselect it.
Close ‘Control Panel’.
The touchscreen feature will be disabled, and your Windows 7 laptop will no longer respond to your touches.
