How to Create SVG Files for Cricut & Mac

by Kristen White Blogger
About PNG, JPG, and SVG

The two most familiar image formats are PNG and JPG. Modification in the PNG and JPEG image format results in much lower image quality. Due to this reason, designers prefer to convert JPEG or PNG image format to SVG image format to avoid poor resolution of the picture while editing.

Vectorizing Images from PNG on Mac

The following steps will guide us on how to convert PNG to SVG Mac-

Step 1: Browse a picture in PNG or JPG format from the desktop.
Step 2: Choose the number of spectra for the resulting vector file.
Step 3: To smoothen the resulting output, set to Simplify option.
Step 4: The last step is to click on the "Generate" option. The PNG image will successfully convert to SVG format.

Vectorizing photos for Cricut Design Space

If you want to convert a photo to SVG for Cricut, follow these steps:

1. Selecting and opening the Chrome Web browser
In this step, select the Chrome Web browser on the desktop. Once it gets open, select the Chrome Web Store and enter ‘File Converter’ on the search bar, then press on ‘add to Chrome.' We can also open it directly by typing 'https://image.online-convert.com/’ on the chrome browser bar.

2. Select an upload option

Scroll to the bottom of the page and, then we will find the “Convert image to the SVG format” option, click on it. Upload the picture using any of the 4 options:

•    Google Drive
•    Enter URL
•    Choose Files
•    Dropbox

3.Convert file

Click on the “Start Conversion” option.  Alternatively, we can also make further alterations before converting our file. For example, we can crop that part of the picture which we need to convert.  It all depends on us too. If we do not want to change anymore, click the "Start conversion’ option.

4. Get a downloaded SVG file

The file is now changed to SVG format. We can find it near the bottom menu of our desktop. If we are not able to see it, check in the download files of the desktop.

5. Import SVG to Cricut

After downloading the SVG file, the SVG image format is then uploaded to Cricut Design Space. Steps for uploading the SVG image format to Cricut Design space are as follows-

•    Click on the ‘Cricut Design Space software’ on the desktop.
•    After opening the above software, choose the SVG file that we have created.
•    Either click on the “Open” option in the file selector or drag and drop the SVG image into the ‘Design Space’ picture upload window.

6. Upload the file

In the ‘Cricut Design Space’ picture upload window, export the image.

Conclusion

SVG precisely converts Raster Images to Vector Graphics, such as the conversion of PNG to SVG, JPG to SVG without decreasing the resolution of images. It can make the images even smoother and sharper and can also auto trace images of color and grayscale, black-and-white, outline, and skeleton.
