How to Connect With People Using Stories

by Mukesh kumar svdsvg
He raises his voice and speaks very quickly when showing his anger and disappointment and says something like, "WE HAVE TO DO BETTER IF WE ARE GOING TO SUCCEED!"Basic Public Speaking Certification Course  (The words in caps represent emphasized words). What does his team think of him? They think that he is a "hot head" who is unapproachable. While having authority and control are obvious strengths for a leader, trying to obtain it in this way leads to disaster.Let's take the same scenario now with a business manager who is talking with his team about his unhappiness about their performance on their project and approach it from another angle.

He speaks in a calm voice maintaining an appropriate speed and stresses the positive words he wants his team members to remember. We will use the same sentence as before, but say it as follows: "We HAVE to do BETTER if we are going to SUCCEED." (the words in caps represent emphasized words). Now the team's perception of their manager is much different. They know that things are not going well, but because the manager stayed calm and spoke in a professional manner, they can now move on to solving the problem. The team will be more motivated and want to please their manager when treated with respect.

In any professional or personal situation, it is best to stay calm as much as possible, maintain a consistent speaking rate, and avoid raising our voices during emotional situations. Speaking too quickly, yelling, and stressing every word will be perceived as being out of control, and that is the last quality we want others to see in us.This can be especially powerful if you'll be revealing a process or an approach that will teach your audience how to solve some sort of problem. It can also be very effective if you'll be talking about a controversial topic. In both cases, revealing just a little bit about what you'll be saying will capture interest and should pack the room.

As a speaker, you are going to want to build the best speech possible. However, you don't know everything. The people who have connected with you on Twitter may be experts on the subject that you'll be talking about. It would be foolish to try to give a talk without getting their help. What this means is that you'll need to use Twitter to ask for their input. Pose provocative questions. Ask for links to references. Twitter does not give you a lot of space to ask long questions so you're going to have to keep things short, but that will boost the chances of the right people reading your questions.
