How to Clean The Sofa Fast And Easy
When I started to live alone – with no parents or roommates, I felt both happy and scared. Happy, because for the first time I had my own home, and scared, because I was not sure if I could take a good care of it.
The apartment was small – bedroom and living room, with almost no furniture only one bed and one wardrobe. I didn't have a lot of money for furniture. That's why I started to look for second hand ones. I liked very much a red coach for two. It was cheap, so I bought it, without thinking a lot. As I took it home and saw it on daylight, I realized it was quite dirty actually. So I started thinking how can I clean it and make it look like brand new again.
I made a little online research and now I'm going to share with you everything you need to know about sofa cleaning.
The first thing you should do when you decide to clean your coach is to look at it's cleaning code. It's on a sticker placed on the sofa. Find it. On the sticker there is one of the following 4 codes:
- W( for “water”) means you may safely wash the coach with water.
- S means solvents only. In this case only dry cleaning is allowed.
- S/W (it's for dry-foam). The best solution here is also dry cleaning.
- X is a very rare code and means you can treat the coach only with vacuum cleaner
Well, it's very easy to choose the best way to clean your sofa with these stickers. But when the coach is older or second hand, like mine, it may not have a sticker on it. You should choose by yourself the best way to clean it. There are some tricks you can try.
But before I tell you about them there is one thing you need to remember: always do a patch test first. This means – try any cleaning method on a little peace of your sofa. If it works, treat the whole furniture this way. If it doesn't – you haven't destroyed the whole sofa.
Ok, now it's time for the cleaning tips
Vacuum cleaner
Before you try anything else, clean the sofa with vacuum cleaner first. It will take away the dust and pet hairs, if you have any pets.
Baby wipes
Baby wipes can clean some light spots or dust on your coach. Even if you don't have a baby, keep a packet of them at home. They can help you solve little cleaning dramas. But if the stain is old, there's no way baby wipes can take it away.
Detergents
In this case you should find the most proper detergent for your type of coach. Read the papers that come with your sofa – you haven't threw them in the garbage, have you? On them it should be written which cleaner is best for your sofa.Home made detergents
If you don't have papers for your coach for some reason, don't get despair. There are some other cleaning solutions left. You can make a cleaning detergent by your own.
Mix one part washing-up liquid with 4 parts water. Put the mixture on a towel and scrub the sofa with it. You can try a mixture of washing powder and water too.
Green cleaning
If you're are fan of the green cleaning, try the soda cleaning method. Sprinkle soda all over the sofa. Scrub it with a brush and leave it for an your. After that clean it with a vacuum cleaner.
Vinegar can also solve your coach cleaning problem. But if you decide to try this method, keep in mind that the sofa will smell a lot after the procedure. You may need to use some upholstery deodorizer.
Professional cleaning help
But, you know what? Sometimes the coach, never mind if it's expensive or second hand, requires an expert touch. So, may be it's good to consider hiring a professional sofa cleaning company to do this for you. The cleaning stuff can take care of your coach twice as fast and twice as good as you could. You'll have time for far more pleasant things like going to the cinema or for a coffee.
