The common construction misconception is that if you are installing ceramic tiles then you are preventing water seepage as well. This is partially true. Ceramic tiles can give you a waterproofing surface only up to a level of saturation. After the cracks and holes show up in the layering the water and moisture will seep in and cause some damage to the plaster or paint. So whenever you are going to tile a wall or surface in your house it is equally important for you to use grouting methods to achieve a perfect durable waterproofing solution.

Now those who are not aware of grouting techniques should understand that the tiles that you install are not tightly packed. The spaces and cracks in between are enough for the water to seep through and cause damage. Using grouting methods is a way to fill in those spaces and cracks and prevent any moisture or water to seep through. It is not at all an easy thing and requires more skilful technique than the laying of tiles itself.

Today there are various grouting chemicals and materials that can be used for making a perfect waterproof surface. If you are going to grout any patterned or colored tiles then it becomes essential to have a matching, grouting material to fill the spaces between the tiles as otherwise it will look upheaval.

There are various types of grouting materials available these days. These vary according to the waterproofing component added to the mix such as sand acrylic mixture, white cement or even plasticizer and polymer based grouting materials. In different conditions these materials prove more effective. The most commonly used is the sand acrylic mixture as it cheaper and requires no special expertise for application. Although in areas where exposure to water is high it may not be a very good option in the long run. In such areas grouting materials such as white cement and plasticizer are very effective. In industrial constructions grouting with polymer-based materials is very effective as in industries corrosive materials are also a common phenomenon.

So now we have looked at the various grouting materials that are there. It is equally important for following a proper grouting technique for the methods to actually work. It is essential that the grouting mixture is not a loose mixture and is a sticky creamy mix. Make sure that it has a denser consistency because when the tiles are cleaned to remove the extra grouting material it is very likely to damage the loose and the wet material. This will make your grouting a fail and lead to moisture. It might slowly expand those cracks and cause damage.

So prevent any leakage at your home by implementing these common yet effective grouting methods.
